Possible to backup Ubuntu 14.04 partition with ATIH 2014?
Hello,
I did a search and didn't find a whole lot that pertains to the current Ubuntu release 14.04.
I have a triple boot system with XP, 7, and Ubuntu and I wasn't sure if I could rely on Acronis TIH to back it up like I normally do with Windows. If it will work must I select all the Ubuntu partitions or will ATIH find them?
I am brand new to Ubuntu and didn't know what to think, sorry if this is a duplicate question. On my drive I have Acronis on the 7 partition fwiw.
Thanks to all in advance!

The main issue is that it seems to backup the free space on the disk rather than just useful data which makes backups massive. Partition is EXT4. I tried 64bit and 32bit versions with the same issue, but will try using LVM and report back.
hi sedto,
I'd have replied sooner posting was unavailable for a few days.
Mine is ext4 as well, but when in Win 7 of course no drive letters are shown at all for the Linux partitions. I have been too busy to actually try it, but I am very skeptical that it will work. I may resort to using the backup program that come with Ubuntu and put the backups on my external drive like I do with TIH.
I have never used LVM so can't comment on it.
Thanks and let me know how you get on with it.

LVM made things worse. At this moment, it seems impossible to image Ubuntu 14.04 (at least without having to resort to sector by sector backups). Acronis need to step up their game.

Hi sdeto,
Sorry to hear that LVM cocked things up for you. Thanks for trying it anyway. You are correct when you say the backups Acronis makes from ext4 are huge. I did mine, on my triple boot system of xp, win 7, and Ubuntu and that was using an Esata connection not a USB. It took me 1 1 /2 hours to make the backup and who knows if it would work anyway? It came back as 'valid' but I'll be damned if I'm going to try it!
There is a backup program in Ubuntu but it doesn't show all the folders, especially the important ones like / so what good is it?
I re installed Ubuntu due to a problem with the beloved VLC player. It wouldn't work and I installed the KDE desktop, thinking it would effect vlc, it didn't. So rather than fool around trying to remove the kde DE, I just blew out all of it and re-installed the whole thing. No loss, I have it as a test bed to see what I can and cannot do in Linux, opposed to Windoze.
Thanks for trying though, it would be nice to KNOW if Acronis could be relied on to make a reliable Linux backup. Odd that it does see the ext4 format when you try to back up...
Regards.
