Best Practice tp backup Dedup Database

Thread needs solution

Hi Togehter,

i need some ideas how to backup the dedup Database. We create with an Standalone Backup Server backups of 12 Servers. To reduce the used Disl Space we use deduplication. And when i am right i can´t restore an dedup backup without the SQL Database, Correct?

Now the Question is who to backup theste Database, this measn i need to Backup the whole Server. But this will be very large beacause we Backup everything over iSCSI to an QNAP NAS.

And i need to Backup my Backups on 5 USB Drives. Who to do this with deduplication?

Thanks for help.

No. Deduplication database (that one that is recommended to place on a fast disk other than the one that contains vault files) can be recreated by Storage Node when the vault is attached to it. It may take significant time, though. If you need to create a second copy of your deduplicated vault you need to copy the vault files too.

It's not clear - do you need to 'rotate' these USB drives and copy the vault daily to them during the week? Or the vault is that large so it fits on 5 disks?

Hi

thanks for first help, i am not sure but how can i backup my Storgae Node? Is it needed to create an Full Image of my Server where Acronis is running?
In my example the SQL Database is on an NAS which i connected over iSCSI, Also the Backup Files same NAS but different LUN.
Whats now the best way to get an backup of these Files?

There are no best practices, because it's not a 'planned' scenario, but the safest way would be to stop Storage Node service before backing up these files and starting it after copying is complete.
