Acronis/Seagate DiscWizard and Windows 8
I want to upgrade the 320 GB HDD in my ASUS S400CA-CA154H Ultrabook with a 500 GB HDD.
After confirming for Windows 8 compatibility at http://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-ha… I installed the latest DiscWizard, v. 13.0.14387. It is authored by Acronis.
Compatible it certainly is not. Now every time I boot, the system displays a Secure Boot Violation dialog with the message: Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup. See attachment. Needless to say, cloning a system drive requires a reboot, at which time the insecure boot is not permitted by UEFI/Windows 8 so the cloning can not proceed.
I have tried to contact Seagate with no response.
I have previously successfully cloned a WD HDD under Windows XP using their version of TrueImage.
Changes unspecified by Acronis/Seagate have been made in the UEFI Setup which I would like to undo.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to:
1. How to clone my HDD without going down the disc image route, my last resort.
2. What needs undoing in the UEFI or the system to remove the Acronis Loader and prevent the Secure Boot Violation dialog from displaying without disabling Secure Boot in the UEFI.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you.

Thanks anyway tuttle. This forum was my last hope. That perhaps an Acronis developer might chime in with some inside knowledge on how to clean their Boot loader off my machine before I undertake it by myself. Even if I succeed the issue of decent cloning software under Win 8 still needs research. I have time.
Seagate support, while they replied, were useless. At first didn't even know DiscWizard was theirs :-(
ASUS support also replied but in the end told me to take my PC to their repair centre. They would just restore it and I can do that myself from the restore partition.
Hate the mushroom treatment in my own industry :-(
Over and out.

Hello,
I had the same problem as Rman (on a Dell XPS 8700, with the same version of Acronis DiscWizard), as I copied my Data from my old 1 TB disc from my Windows XP to the new 2 TB of the new computer with Windows 8.
After many researches on the Web with any better solution, I "resolved" this problem by :
- seting up the Secure Boot on disabled
It was "Ok" but, after Update on Windows 8.1, I cloned my Data 2 TB on an external 1 TB HDD. Acronis Seagate DiscWizard had to restart my computer. The clone was done and Windows restarted another time on Acronis Seagate UEFI, but ... the program loads not completely (blue screen with mouse pointer and language in the bottom right). On this screen, I can't do anything else as move the mouse pointer. After 1 or 2 minutes, the system restarts ever and ever, still I corrected the BIOS for "Secure Boot" on "Enabled" ... the red Window "Secure Boot Violation dialog with the message: Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup." comes on every start.
I contacted the Dell hotline ... the couldn't help me ... BIOS Update solves nothing and they had at this moment any other solution for me (as new installation of the OS ;-()
If I find The Solution, I'll come back to explain it.
If somebody can help : Thanks.
Sorry for my poor english, I speek french and german, but english only like here.

Believe it or not Win 8 actually has a hidden clone method. Do a search for cloning Windows 8 on line, it doesn't show up doing a search from the computer search app. I’m sure you can find it. if I can anyone can...lol I haven't tried it yet but what I've tried with Acronis hasn't worked with W8 and this whole forum is full of failed attempts. It saddens me to think that customer service for a failing product that has worked great in the past is reduced to a fee per incident situation. I've seen a lot of free stuff out there but nothings really free. That's why I bought this and then paid to update in the first place.

Yes and if you find someone let us know I have a Seagate as well.

My how time flies Geno. As you can see, I first posted here last September! Good to hear from you. And not a peep out of Acronis ON THEIR OWN FORUM to this day!!! Thanks for nothing moderator.
In the midst of my losing battle with DiscWizard (DiskButcher?) I was shopping at Aldi not even thinking about my dilemma when, always on tech alert, I noticed a Bauhn USB 3 Dual Hard Drive Docking Station (Product No. 43810) next to the register while I was queuing to check out. Reading the description on the outside of the carton I noted that it accepted two 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drives AND had a one-touch clone function. I couldn't believe it cost only $AU30 (I live in Sydney, Australia). Convinced that I could use such a device, I snapped it up, took it home and, after making the necessary connections, with one touch of a button it cloned my 320 to the 500 perfectly. Naturally, it also functions as a dock.
I also managed to undo the DiskButcher damage to the W8 OS but those details have been lost in the mist of time.
I shall probably not knowingly use/buy another Acronis product.

I feel your pain. you should read my other posting. Thanks for the info, I'm going to cut/paste it to a text file and do some research on it. BTY: I think it his wife driving support/not. lmbo Anyway it's good to know that someone reads this forum. Cause it obvious they don't.
Did you know there is a hidden clone in W8? I was doing a search the other day and it fell in my lap (clone Windows 8) Don't know if I can hand out the site from here but they do give instructions on how to do it and it is hidden. It dates back to about Vista, or so but back then it wasn't so hard to find and you cant find it by doing a Win search. Now it looks like a "back-up" but it's more then that...lol Haven't tried it yet but between the holes in W8 and Acronis it couldn't do any more damage.
Anyway thanks for the input. Now I go to copy and past. It's 4:42 am here.
Did it, GN and thanks.
Geno
