Mount tib as disk fails with bsod in windows 8.1 with kmode exception not handled error

Thread needs solution

Mounting the tib worked once for a session where I used it to transfer programs and data from the original xp system to the 8.1 system. After that, it crashes windows every time with the kmode bsod error.

What can be done about this?

You cannot transfer installed applications and expect them to function. WIndows applications don't work like that. You may transfer files.

To restore specific data, you have various options:

- You can boot from the ATI bootable Rescue Media and choose a files/folders restore, selecting the files and folders you wish to restore.

- If ATI is installed, you could mount the backup and copy files/folders from it to the drive.

- If ATI is installed, you could double-click the backup to open it in Windows Explorer, then copy files/folders from it to the drive.

- Within ATI, right-click on the backup you wish to restore from and select "Recover Files".

That gives you four methods, so at least one should suit you. :)

And, here's an Acronis note on Restoring Specific Files and Folders from Disk Backup: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34879

This does not deal with my issue.

I installed Acronis 2014 directly. I mounted the image of an Acronis backup successfully once. When I tried again it generated a bsod. I uninstalled it and downloaded the latest from Acronis and reinstalled and it still crashes on mount. This is an Acronis mount as drive issue and not a backup or restore issue.

It may not be applicable but check is to make sure the original mount was "dismounted."

When mounting, only mount the partitons to be used--all not partitions contained within the backup.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Acronis and it just so happened that the system updated itself with the latest Windows updates.

I mounted a different file and it worked. I then tried the file that was failing and it worked.
