Upgrade Vista to Windows 7 with ATI 2009 installed

Thread needs solution

On my Vista pc I was used to use ATI 2009, without problems.
Yesterday I have upgraded my pc, including ATI 2009, from Vista to Windows 7.
After the upgrade all programs are working fine, but I have concerns about using ATI 2009 and I am a little scared to test.
For your info: I do not use schedulers and I make full backups only.
What do you recommend?

Is it safe to make a full backup of my "new" Windows 7 using ATI 2009? And can I use ATI 2009 for restore?
or
Do I need to remove ATI 2009 first and then do a fresh install of ATI 2009 and then make a fresh backup of my Windows 7 enviroment?
or
Do I need to remove ATI 2009 and then install ATI 2010 and use ATI 2010 for creating and restoring backups?

Hello T Boersma,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.

Acronis True Image Home 2009 doesn’t support Windows 7, check the following KB article for more details. I wouldn’t recommend you to launch it in order to avoid possible malfunctions. I may suggest you to uninstall Acronis True Image Home 2009 first then purchase Acronis True Image Home 2010 Upgrade using our online store. Upgrade version is a full package so it doesn’t require previous version to be installed, you should just use the serial number for the previous version in order to install Acronis True Image Home 2010 Upgrade as well as the serial number for the upgrade.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

It's impossible for me to remove ATI 2009 from Windows 7 (because some files are in use) and the removal tool you provide does not work with Windows 7. Therefor I have decided to remove all ATI 2009 files manually and do a fresh install of 2010 in the same directory. Without a doubt, some registry entries were left, but I was not able to locate these references.
And yes, ATI 2010 works! I am able to create manual backups and the making of a rescue disk was no problem at all.
But ........... now ATI 2010 warns me that my system is not fully protected ....... Not protected? I have made 2 backups and I have created a rescue disk. For some unknown reason these backups are not listed under the restore tab, but I can select the backups manually.
Windows 7 noticed after a successful backup an error and asked me to send an error report to MS, but I ignored that action. I remember that the error was related to some temp files, but that's all I can remember. When I can recreate the error (maybe another backup will do so) I will let you know.
For now I ignore this annoying "warning", but is it safe to ignore this message and should I be able restoring an image without problems?

Hello T Boersma,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

This is not an issue. In order to get rid of annoying warning message you should create the backup archive from Protection State window. Regarding the created backups I suppose you can rely on them in case you validate them with the software validation tool.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
