Vista Superfetch locks backup drive
I notice that after I create a backup to an external drive with TI, Windows Vista starts reading through the .tib file. This process can take up to a half an hour to complete not allowing me to shut the external drive down until it completes. I believe that I have narrowed it down to the Superfetch service. Has anyone else run into this issue and have you disabled Superfetch to resolve it?

I have already shut off Indexing. These are the services running under the particular svchost that was accessing the .tib files:
svchost.exe 1372
AudioEndpointBuilder,
hidserv,
Netman,
PcaSvc,
SysMain (This is Superfetch),
UxSms,
WdiSystemHost,
Wlansvc,
WPDBusEnum,
wudfsvc

John:
TI 2010 installs a search plugin that causes Vista search or Google Desktop to index the contents of .tib files. This is described in the User Guide on pages 144 - 151. Have a look at the guide to see the settings that control this process.

Thanks Mark,
I should have mentioned that I am using TI 11. There is nothing in its manual other than this vague reference in the NTFS file format section: "Files in folders are indexed to speed up file search". Next time I take a backup, I will see if I can pin down which service is doing the dirty work.
