Clean up not working

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have a new backup that creates a full backup once a day at 1am.
I have the Old version cleanup rules: set to delete versions older than 4 days.

But it is not deleting the older backups and now the external drive is full and no backups are happening.

How do I get the cleanup rules to work ?

Thanks,
Kent

There could be several causes. Not knowing your exact status and exact settings, I can only offer general guidelines.

If you are already getting disk full messages, you need to stop using that specific backup task and create a new task. Editing an existing task usually does not work and the editing function is often the cause of a task not working..

If you have your backup scheme set to delete older than 4 days, remember that the program will create a new replacement backup BEFORE it determines whether deletion of needed.
Thus, you there is always need for that extra backup space before the oldest is deleted. Perhaps it is the need for this extra space which has to be planned for in how many to keep. You need space for at least 5 full backps when set to daily and delete after 4 days.

There is some examples below on how to set up a backup scheme but always plan for the need for that extra space.

Also, if all the tib backup files are full type backups, then each is independent of the others so the oldest can be deleted but do so via the program as per example GH5 below.

GH5. How to delete backup files using Acronis Backup 'Explorer'

AGH-1. 64640: Do's & Don'ts--Hints to help prevent issues with your TIB backup files creation. New

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme.Keep 4 versions (chains). The 4 is an example only with user choice for whatever number of chains to be retained best fits the individual needs..

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains. The 6-4 is an example only with user choice for whatever number of chains to be retained best fits the individual needs.
Note/example: If rule selected is "Delete older than 7 days" is selected, deletion will not begin until the first chain (7 files) is completed and entire chain is older than 7 days.
GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme. 2 Diff, Keep 2 chains. The 2-2 is an example only with user choice for whatever number of chains to be retained best fits the individual needs.
