Bootable Recovery CD Won't Recognize External Drive with Backup File

Thread needs solution

I created an ATI bootable Recovery DVD. Backed up my c drive [Windows 7-64] using ATI 2015. I was going to place the backup from the c drive on a new drive [same size]. Upon booting the recovery CD I cannot locate the drive which had the backup file. Seagate 1TB external. Go figure NO recognition of an external drive. Actually I had 3 external drives connected NO recognition of any of those drives.

So what I have been reading in the forum is I need to create a WinPE based recovery CD. Why, when you pay for software that is supose to function properly. Now as important as backup software is it should function reliably. If this software cannot perform a simple function as to read an external drive what else may fail in the software. Only when you have to backup is when it fails.

If I cannot restore the disk what value is the software?

Is there a version of the bootable Recovery software that works?

So if someone can help here that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you can get to the main Acronis page the WINPE solution links are in the User Guide section 7.1 (PDF) page 53 dependant on your OS

I had the same issue (and comments!). I have 2 Seagate disks that it failed to detect- a 2tb and a 4tb disk. However it did detect a CNM 3tb USB disk. These are all USB 3.0 disks, so it is clearly not simply a USB 3.0 issue. I opened a support case and, after I had performed various tests, I was told that this was due to missing drivers in the recovery CD/DVD. As the 2014 version of the recovery CD works, I could have told them this from the off. Instead of which, I was asked to create a WinPE recovery disk and see if this works. It did, but it failed to detect my network. As I do regularly scheduled backups to NAS drives which Acronis does not recognise as NAS drives, so I need to find them via network places.

In speaking to support, this was recognised as a bug, and I was told that a fix would be available in the next maintenance release of the product, but they were unable to tell me when this might be available. However, they closed the case saying "Creating Win PE is not a workaround, it a solution that we offer in case any hardware is not detection using Acronis bootable media. You can subscribe to Acronis newsletters for information about build release or new version release. Acronis newsletters provide the latest information on new Acronis products, special offers, sneak peaks, exclusive discounts." I am a bit cross about this as I told them clearly that I consider the WinPE method as a temporary work around and not a solution. Ho Hum. I suppose this makes them look good from a reporting or statistical standpoint.

Using a WinPE recovery disk certainly is a solution. You may add the drivers needed to support your hardware. See https://forum.acronis.com/forum/71918 for an easy to use WinPE solution.
