How Can I Restore an Acronis True Image 9.0 backup file to my new windows 7 computer?

Thread needs solution

My old Windows XP computer died but I made a backup file with Acronis True Image 9.0 before it died. My new computer has Windows 7 operating system.

When I tried to load Acronis True Image 9.0, I learned it is not compatible with Windows 7.

Is there a new product I can use to restore my backup file to my new computer?

Thanks in advance for your help!

TI 2010 will install in Windows 7. You should be able to Explore or Mount the TI 9 image and restore your files. You could use the trial version if you haven't purchased it.

If that Backup you made of the XP system was of the entire hard drive and you try to restore it on the new Win 7 system, if the restore is successful you will replace Win 7 with Xp. Do you want to do this?
For a new system with a new OS, it is much better to reinstall all your Apps. The data (documents, music, pics, video etc.) can be copied first to an external drive then to the new system using Windows Explorer. If you do not have an external drive, then you can burn those data files to a cd or dvd and transfer them that way.

My old computer died so cant access files from it. I did a full backup. Can I use that to recover to my new computer software programs I installed on my old system such as MS Office? I don't want to overwrite windows 7 with windows XP.

You can't recover installed programs like Office. Programs like that need to be reinstalled.

You can recover data files (documents, pictures, etc.).

If you setup a VM and restore the XP image into it, you may be able to access everything from there.
