Multiple backups instead of only one backup on a USB key.

Thread needs solution

Hi

I'm using TI 2015 on a new PC with Windows 8.1.

I want to save data on a usb key, (Data Traveller G4, 64 GB, USB 3.0, NTFS).

I want to save only the last backup, and that the old one are deleted by Acronis.

But since the begenning, backups are added. I've well chosen the good way of backup ("schéma unique" en français).

Could anybody help me ?

Thanks.

Stéphane

Stéphane,

Acronis will NOT delete the old backup before creating a new one. It always will create the replacement first and then do the delete.
So, if the usb-key must contain no tib backups, you must either manually delete the unwanted backups,
or use a solution such as this next link example. This link uses a batch file to perform the manual deletion.

How much space of the 64 is used with your backups?

What type of backup did you have in mind
Full only, or
Full plus incremental, or
Full plus differential?

Hi GroverH and thanks for your answer.

OK, I know that Acronis delete old backup after creating the new one. My problem is that Acronis doesn't do that, and only make a new backup.

There is a lot of free space. One backup is less than 1 GB.

Yes, I there is full backup. The french model name is "modèle unique" where the new full backup replaces the old one.

One question : I'm using 2 keys, one a day, the second, the day after etc ...
On each key, the backup numbers are 1 / 3 / 5 .... (or 2 / 4 / 6 ), but not 1 / 2 / 3 ... Could it be the reason of my problem ?

Thanks.

Stéphane

each usbkey needs it own individual backup task. As your current task is not working correctly, stop using it and create a new task for each usb-key.
Task name and folder name should differ to avoid confusing both the user as well as the program.

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. This example of full (only) backps show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains (single fulls) to retain. Note, this is a custom scheme so you must configure yourself.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..

Hi GroverH

Thanks again for your help :-)

Now, it's OK. The cause of the problem is that backups are done with the same task, on 2 different USB keys.

With 2 tasks, each for a key, there is no more problem. A step backwark for Acronis, with Acronis 2014, it was possible to use 2 keys with only one task.

It's not the only problem with this "new" version : no log menu, the list of all the backups wich is listed when you connnect a hard drive used to store the backups made on different PCs ...

I hope True Image 2016 will solve this problems ...
