Update ATI without uninstalling

Thread needs solution

I've ATI Home build 5055 installed under Vista SP2 and I'd like to update to build 6053 without uninstalling nor losing my options, tasks, etc (for no particular reason or problem, I just want to have the newest version). Is this possible at all?

I've launched the build 6053 installer hoping to see some "repair install" button, but the installer behaves as if there weren't any ATIH build installed yet. Anyway I installed the new version over the existing one, choosing the same installing options and folder, but this just broke ATIH and I wasn't able to launch, reinstall or uninstall it again. I fixed this recovering the Vista partition with the boot CD so I'm now were I was: with the ancient build 5055 correctly installed and working and wanting to update it.

Is it possible without uninstalling the old build?

Well, I've finally uninstalled the old build and installed the new one. It wasn't that hard. My default options have been preserved, although the tasks have not. Good luck to all! :)

You're supposed to be able to install the later build over the older one. However, it doesn't always work (as you found out) and requires uninstalling first. I've done it both ways and, in most cases, didn't have any problems.

It's always good to make a backup image just prior to trying either method.
