Slow response by Acronis True Image 2012 Home
I gave up using Acronis True Image 2012 over two years ago because every action took an impossibly long time, with frequent "Not responding" messages and greyed-out windows. The application was unusable in any practical sense. I see that many other users have reported similar problems in the forum. I would like to return to Acronis but am reluctant to do so unless this problem has been solved. Does the current version suffer from the same problem?

I am using Widows 7. The problems start as soon as I invoke TI. The first window that shows my various back-up scenarios takes 90 seconds to form and, if I am patient and wait, then click on a scenario, it then takes another 90 seconds to display the folders included in a particular back-up session. On clicking a folder to examine the files within, I wait... and wait... and wait... then give up after 7 minutes. So, after 10 wasted minutes, I have achieved nothing. The hard disk is spinning continuously and there is a lot of activity by the central processor.
There are quite a lot of scenarios, (probably about 12 - scrolling is so slow that it is virtually impossible to count them), some of them created by Acronis when I have edited the content of a folder
No other software gives me this sort of trouble. Could it be that another program conflicts with TI? I have temporarily suspended Zone Alarm Extreme Security (firewall anti-virus, anti-spam etc.). There was a marginal improvement in response time but it not enough to make TI usable.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Sounds like you have some odd issues going on there. Each screen should take only two or three seconds to fully populate. I'm probably a little out of my depth here but this is how I would proceed.
Have you opened task manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc at the same time to open it )to see what process or processes are eating into the CPU and Disk. That might give you a clue. Do it first without opening Acronis to get an idea of what are normal background processes and then open Acronis and see what happens.
Things you could try...
I would recommend running Acronis from the bootable CD (you make that yourself) and create a full image backup of your drive. Done this way Acronis is running without Windows and so there can be no interactions on that front. If you still have problems running it like this then perhaps there could be some driver issue somewhere... maybe someone from Acronis could chime in on that.
A full backup done this way will let you try anything you want on the PC without fear of problems. You can uninstall and disbable things at will and see if anything helps resolve the issue. Also, if you have W7 pro then that has a Windows image backup routine built in. Use that to as well to create an image you can recover back to while trying to troubleshoot.

This might sound crazy but once you have a full system backup on a separate disk then you can even reinstall W7 from scratch and install just Acronis and see how it behaves.
Task manager should look something like this. Here you can see that nothing much is using any resources.

CPU, amount of installed memory, anti-virus software you are using (example)

Also, what is the size of your HD and percentage of used space on it?
Do you experience abnormal slowness in any other apps?

Installed memory - 4GB
Anti-Virus - Zone Alarm Extreme Security V 13.1.211.000
Hard drive (Windows partition) 116GB of which 20GB is free
External drive (used for all backups) 1.81TB of which 976GB is currently free.
Windows 7 Professional with service pack 1. All recommended updates have been installed.
My trusty old machine is not as nippy as it was but I have had no significant problems with any software other than Acronis.

Thanks to you all for your help.
In desperation, I finally uninstalled TI2012, intending to re-install. However, the re-install produced a trial version of TI2015, which has proved to be entirely satisfactory - no long delays, better interface. I am now upgrading.
