backing up my windoes install

Thread needs solution

I just went through having to refresh my Win 8.1 install. Some system files got corrupted and the sfc utility was unsuccessful. Wile its still fresh I'd like to make a vopy of windows so that I could just copy defective files back in. Is everything in the Windows folder? Is there a menu choice for this? Thanks.

Robert,

TI 2015 allows the user to backup complete disks, partitions of disks, and folder/files. A complete disk backup will backup your entire PC disk. See the link below for a description of this process:

Another option is the Clone Tool provided with the TI 2015 app. The Clone Tool can create an exact identical copy of your new install to another disk. Many users choose to do this and keep the cloned disk copy on hand so that if the installed disk dies or gets corrupted beyond easy repair they can simply swap out drives and move on. Be advised that a complete disk backup is recommended prior to using the Clone Tool in case something goes wrong during the clone procedure. In addition, the Clone Tool needs to be run from user created bootable Recovery Media. The link below describes a brief overview of the clone process.

Hope this helps.

Does the windows folder contain all of the windows OS? The SxS folder specifically. My issue started with getting chk dsk errors, which I repaired. Then windows started failing on some tasks. I guessed that some system files on on the clusters "repaired". Running SFC fixed some but failed on others. I figured maybe the SxS files could be damaged too. Finally I gave up and refreshed the OS. Following this I purchased a new drive and installed it. I ran the clone tool from the old drive and it moved everything to the new one. I was hoping there was a way to have a copy of Windows or at least the SxS folder, in case this happens again.

Does True Image support something like this? Even though I had backups I wasnt sure they didnt have the same corrupted files. An archived copy of the Operating system, much like the hidden restore folder on laptops would be an easy way to get back in business following Windows corruption. I dont know enough about this stuff. If I'm being dumb here I apologize. But I do thank you for taking the time to answer this.

A complete disk backup will include all necessary disk partitions, and all folders and files necessary for the user to recovery such backup to a new disk and boot into that disk.

Once you create a complete disk backup you should validate that backup for integrity which is available in the True Image app and can be run immediately after a backup is created by choosing such option when creating the backup task.

It is also advised that once you have a validated backup that you test to insure that such backup can be in fact restored to disk and is bootable. This is best done using the user created bootable recover media with restore done to a spare blank disk.
