In Acronis 2013 older backups (differential) suddenly disappearing from recovery list

Thread needs solution

Hello,
for some time now I have been experiencing the following issue with Acronis 2013:

Regularily I create (mostly) differential backups after the first full back up. Then once in a while, usually right after I completed a new differential version, suddenly the newest backup (from today) and sometimes even a few more (older versions) are not shown in the recovery list anymore. The missing backups are on my back up drive, they are displayed as successful former backups in the history log and the backup overview screen shows the current backup with date but not the recovery list.

I have not figured out what I'd do if I'd need to recover one of the missing versions. As I said before. It does not happen all the time but it happens frequently. As you can imagine using a back up software that "loses" back up versions is not a very comforting thing.
Now, everytime I make new backup versions I check right afterwards if the they appear in the recovery list. If they don't then I create a new full backup version and start over. However, this is not a very professional set up and quite annyoing. Attached is a pdf with screenhsots showing
1) that today Oct 6th i successfully created a backup (differential)
2) that the event log / history lists that back up as being performed successful today
3) that the backup version exists on my NAS
4) the settings of the backup
5) that the back up from today (Oct 6th) is not in the recovery list

Hope one of you has an idea.
Achim

Where is the backup target (where do you backup to)? Is it to the NAS? Have you assigned a fixed IP for the NAS, or might it dynamically change?

Hi
1) I have two backup targets. One is a NAS and the other one is an ext. HD which I connect with an eSATA cable once a week
2) the NAS has a fixed IP assigned
3) The problem occured with both

I am also having the same problem. Backups disappear from the list and then cannot be added either using the add backup tool.

I am using a USB connected RAID

I have Acronis Tru Image 2014 Premium Build 6673

If the backup destination device changes drive letter assignment for any reason such as another device attached to the computer while destination device is not attached or is shutdown and this other device assumes the unattached or shutdown devices drive letter present when the backup image file was first created then True Image will be unable to find the backup files which means they will be missing from the backup list.

Solution is to assign drive letters to backup target devices that are in the upper letter range of available letters (XYZ). The assignment of letters will only remain static for such devices attached to the computer that originally made the drive letter assignment thus, when such devices are attached to other computers the first available drive letter on such computer will be assigned to the backup device.
