Restoring the .TIB image to Vmware Workstation

Thread needs solution

Hi,
We are usually working at customer site with limited time, doing the backup from Acronis BootCD which was created Acronis True Image 2013 Home Edition. With alot of information need to be checked or continue supporting our customer so restoring the tib image to our server are really needed. Unfortunate, restore the image to Vmware Workstation 11 almost times not work.
Besides, the server module not always the same with customer's server model, we restored to our server (different model) but it was not worked or easy crashing after that.

I had the license of Acronis Backup 11.5 for Server and Workstation also, created Acronis BootCD with same steps doing as Acronis True Image 2013. I thought that everything will be fine but same situation.

Our main purpose is restoring the image to Vmware Workstation 11. Anyone can share the experience?

Regards,
Hoang

Hi Nguyen,
can you please provide more details about your steps while restoring the system image to a virtual machine?
Do you use Acronis Universal Restore?
Thank you.

Hi Anna,
Thanks for your respond.
After backup the image (.tib) successfully by BootCD. Backup was created with Acronis Universal Restore due to expected to restore different the hardware.

In Vmware Workstation v11, I have started creating New Virtual Machine, following the Virtual Machine Wizard by select Custome > Installer Disk Image File (ISO). At this step, I browse to ISO file which same source with BootCD burned.
Everything should be fine and restore 100% without error until starting the windows. Blue Screen Of Death just appear and virtual machine restarted immediately.
I am sure that the image not damaged because it worked when was restored to physical machine with same model.

Please tell me what happen during restore and what step do wrongly here?
Can send me the procedure for that one?

Thank you,
Hoang

Hi Nguyen,

Officially this scenario is not supported, it means that Acronis does not guarantee that the recovery will be successfull. Here you will find the information on backup archive compatibility across different product versions. If possible better use a bootable media of ATIH 2013 to restore these archvies.

Thank you,

Hi Surkova,
Recovery by ATIH 2013 bootCD is really to get the BSOD after first start-up the Windows. I am not so sure that ATIH 2013 bootCD should be worked properly for backing-up the Windows Server 2008 with RAID-5?
If the image was restored into exactly same server model. It's always worked! So I dont think the image got occur during backup.

Anyway, the images were restored by Acronis Backup and recovery 11.5 (bootCD). Lucky that it's worked fine on my Vmware Workstation, of course "Universal restore" support to do that. But in ATIH 2013 with "universal restore" still unable to start-up.

Is there any different or improvement between the "Universal Restore" between Home version and business version?

THank you.

Hi Nguyen,

Acronis True Image 2013 is desighned only for protection of the workstation operating systems, such as Windows 7 and Windows XP, server systems are not supported. The whole list of the supported OS for Acronis True Image 2013 you will find here. So if you want to backup and successfully recover a server OS, please use Acronis Backup family.

Thank you,
