Newbie (sort of) Needs Some Definition Clarification

Thread needs solution

What is the difference between an image of a hard drive and a clone? What is the difference between a System.tib backup and Windows 7 System Restore? Do I need to make a System.tib backup if I am using System Restore?
My primary drive (Drive 0) has three partitions that show up in Disk Management: System; C: and Factory Image (P:). I know I don't necessarily need to backup the Factory Image partition but if I am going to create an image in order to re-install Windows 7 x64 on a new hard drive but on the same computer, do I need to include the System partition? I had never noticed that partition in older versions of Windows. Is it new to Win 7x64?

Thanks. Your answers will clarify a lot of things for me?

Should you want to upgrade to a new disk or a larger disk, your best backup option would be to have a "disk" option backup as illustrated by the attachment. This type backup includes your disk signature plus all of your partitions (both hidden or diagnostic, etc) plus all your data. Having this type backup enables you to do a disk option restore or restore a single partition--user choice.
