How to restore a data only partition to a different computer

Thread needs solution

I am in the process of changing laptops. Both are Win7. Both are set up with a C: drive for the OS and an E: drive for all my data, though the partition sizes are slightly different. The new laptop came with the OS installed, and I've already done a migration of the C: drive data using a migration assistant w/ peer to peer networking. Now I need to migrate my E: drive data. The peer to peer connection would let me select the E: drive on the old laptop, but not on the new one (it only sees the C: drive), so I used TrueImage2015 to backup my E: drive to the Acronis Cloud. Now I can't figure out how to restore that backup to the new laptop. I try to do a partition recover to the E: partition on the new drive, but the operation gets some kind of error and kicks out. I can't tell why. Should I be able to do this?

Probably the easiest approach would be to create a new additional data partiton on the new computer and then

you can either plaiin Windows copy the old data partition into the new empty partition,

or use TI to restore the old data partition into the new blank data  partition.

Well, I did create an new additional data partition on the new computer, but TI won't do the restore. Not sure what you mean by a plain Windows copy, but I finally set up a homegroup and copied over the network.
