How to stop TI 2015 from retrying failing backup?

Thread needs solution

Backups ran till early this week. After the first time it failed Acronis keeps retrying the backup and fails repeatedly. I need to kill the job and recreate the task but it won't "Stop" and as soon as it fails it repeats the attempt. Needless to say this is killing a lot of CPU cycles. I tried using the Schedule Manager with Task Zap but it just lists the task indicating it's locked, probably because its in use.

Is there a profile/configuration file I can delete manually to get a fresh start? It would take me less than a couple of minutes to recreate the task.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Michael, some fairly obvious questions for you:

Have you checked the logs for any messages to suggest why the backup is failing / retrying?
The logs are in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs - this may be hidden if you cannot see it immediately.

Have you tried using Windows Task Manager (right-click on the bottom Status bar or press Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and looked for any Acronis tasks to kill that way?

Have you tried running Services.msc and stopping the Acronis Scheduler service?

Have you tried rebooting the computer, and if so, did the backup task restart immediately?
If it did, try restarting in Safe Mode - Run msconfig to edit the startup settings rather than hitting F8 at start.
