I can't find the way to copy the settings of a backup. Was this feature removed?

Thread needs solution

Here's what I wanted Acronis to do for me:  1) make a full backup, then 5 incremental backups, then delete first full backup, and start again.    It never worked.  It just stopped and said there was no space.

After reading the manual several times and trying over and over, I just quit.  After many months I went back and found a workaround.  When Acronis notified me that my drive was full, I deleted my backups, went in the program, duplicated the old backup settings, and started again with a new backup.

So today I deleted my backups and went in the program and couldn't find the clone settings in the dropdown menu.  Just "reconfigure."  Of course this erased everything, notably my email notifications, which means I will have to go.

I've put a great deal of time into learning what everything means fully and it has taken a lot of time to set it up the way I wanted it.   Also I had to go through the whole Google security thing to get my password for email notification.

Was removing this feature done in an (automatic) update?  Or am I missing something?

Reid, the option to clone your backup settings is only available when you have a backup task created to clone from, as shown in the online user guide:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2015/index.html#7957.html

If you are only seeing the option for Reconfigure then this is because you have manually added an existing backup image file for which there was no existing task in the application interface, thus you are offered the option to recreate the task by reconfiguring the setting that you used previously to create the image.

Thanks, Steve.   That's a relief.

I will set everything up again and try to be more careful in the future.

Best,

Reid

Steve,

I've just spent two hours trying to set up email notifications.  This involves setting up a special password through Google.  I've set up four of them but nothing works.  I try to send out a test email but nothing goes through.

Acronis gave me an error code to check at http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x0064022B+0x0000FFF0+0x8007001B    But your site doesn't recognize this code.

A similar thing happened last time.  I tried dozens of times until eventually it worked for some reason.

Any advice for me?

Thanks,

Reid

Hello Reid, I have had problems with setting up email notifications in the past but recently I have found a method that works every time for me, that is to use a free Gmail account - I do not use the account for anything else and no-one knows the email address for it apart from myself.

In your settings, put your own email account to receive the notifications, for the server put smtp.gmail.com and give your gmail email address and password, plus select SSL, as shown in the graphic attached.  This doesn't need any special password settings from Google or anywhere else.

Hi Steve,

It worked!

The trick was to put the Port 465 and the Encryption SSL.

With gmail you have the option to have double level security with your passwords.   If you have that, your actual password doesn't work when you set up an app like Acronis.  You have to go to Gmail and have it generate a special password that is used only one time.  This Password is specifically connected in this case to Acronis.   Once I changed the settings above, it worked instantly.

Thank you again.

All the best,

Reid
