Email Notifications don't work
Hi,
When trying to configure basic email notifications, the interface derped a little and rather than an option for authenticating my outgoing mail server, it gave me the option for an incoming server, and prepopulated the field with "POP3". I can't think what it would use an incoming server for.
Anyway I populated the fields as best I could and hit Test, and received a popup box with "Unknown Error". Great. I wiped all entries, started afresh, and now I just get an error telling me "not all fields are populated properly".
Thanks very frickin much for taking something as basic as email notifications, breaking it, and then layering the most pointless error messages since "General Protection Fault" on them!

Thanks... I just installed the latest update and there's no difference. I understand now that the option to log into a POP3 server is because some servers use that to then authenticate an SMTP session, but I don't need that. I'm talking to an SMTP server sitting about 3 metres from my machine, and I can send mail using a telnet session on port 25.
This should be so simple; the problem here is True Image is giving me zero feedback on what the issue is. I can get one of two errors ... "You've filled in a field wrong" (which field?!?!!) or "Unknown Error".
I can't believe I'm going to have to install wireshark just to figure out why True Image is failing to send a notification email.

I found the problem - recipient address was invalid, it had been deleted from the directory. I found it by turning up logging on the mail server and seeing what Acronis did and what the error was.
If True Image simply showed the error (511 Invalid Recipient Address) that it had received, this would have been a 2 minute problem.
(Instead of "Unknown Error"!) Definitely a suggestion for your next update.
Thanks for the quick reply here tho, that was helpful

Hi Cody,
I'm glad to know that you were able to solve the problem.
Your suggestion regarding improving error messages was forwarded to development.
Thank you,

Notification worked just fine with 2016 until lately.
"Send test Msg." hangs in about a five min. search and then fails.
I use Yahoo mail server and they verified my pop3 and smtp settings are correct.
Since I get Verification w/backup how can I know that299T8 Backup is good?

Shortstop,
This has been metnioned in other forums as well. We have recommended it as an actionable fix action through the MVP program so I believe that the developers are looking into the behavior. Unfortunately, notiifcations do seem to be working for some, but not others and we are not sure if it is something on the Acronis side or a change in authentication of the Mail side that now requires Acronis to be updated.
If email notifications are not working, and cannot be remedied in your situation for the time being, you will have to launch the applicaiton and look for the freen icon which represents the backup was successful. You can also check the logs located at:
C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs
If you open them in notepad, you can see the status of the backup there. We have recommended updates to bring logging back directly into the ATIH GUI interface through the MVP program as well and I hope this is something we see in upcoming updates as well.
