Recover files button missing for a disk image
When I have a disk image backup, why is there no Recover Files button at the bottom? How do I actually restore from a disk image? I see it for a regular files backup, but not disk image. Build 6525.
And looking at the manual on this: Why does the manual for Acronis True Image 2015 show pictures that do not match the 2015 I have? On page 61, how do I get to the "Home" screen it talks about? How do I get to the "Recovery Wizard" it talks about?

Everytime I restart the program I lose all my "recover" options both for files and partitions. No replies from Acronis to questions about it.

Same here, just noticed this annoying issue, too. Backup was performed correctly, though.
However, other backups are just fine, I can see "Recover disk" and "Recover files" buttons on the bottom.
I further noticed that the context menu right to the backup profile name is missing some items, too, e.g. Validate, Open location and more.

Be aware that in order for these functions to appear, the target destination must be attached plus the drive letter assigned to the target disk must be same drive letter as used when the backups were created.
If you right click on the task name and click the "OPEN LOCATIOHN", all your tib files should be visible.
If the tib files exist, they can be restored via the TI Recovery CD so their non-visibility does not prevent a restore via the CD.

I have been upgrading ATI for many years on the same windows 7 machine, also have the current ADD. My problem as stated above "The only way to get them back is to do "back up now" When the backup finishes the recover files and recover disks buttons reappear."
I uninstalled both products and then searched the registry for any occurance of "Acronis". I deleted all found (some went back many years and versions, this took a long time). I reinstalled ATI2016 and evrything worked fine. Except I could not reinstall ADD (and support was no help with ADD install issue). Oh well? I was updating to win 10 and new hardware so I just left it. Both programs work great in windows 10.
I do not know what went wrong. All I can say is this worked for me as a last resort, short of reinstalling windows 7 and all my programs.

Mickey,
Using recent version of TrueImage, when using Windows Explorer and
right clicking a tib backup file, the right click window opens, and you should see an entry labelled "Aronis".
Clicking the Acronis entry will offer the Validate and Mount options.
An easy way to traverse from the TI program to your tib storage folders is from the TI main program menu,
right click any backup task name and the option "open locaton" will appear and display all the tib files which were created by that particular task.
Each of your tasks storage location can be viewed by clicking each individual task but this does require that the storage location be connected.

What is the difference, if any, between using the Recover disks button, and starting the computer with a bootable rescue disc, when you want to restore your operating system?
I have been wondering what the Recover disks and Recover files buttons were used for and this venue has me wondering what happens if I press the Recover disks button. Will it bring the computer back to the backup version created without the computer having to be shut down? If so, what if there is a failure in the operation?
For several years I have been using a tray and caddy system. This means there is a tray installed in a 3.5 hdd slot on the computer and a hard drive is mounted in a caddy that slides into the tray to connect the hard drive to the system. I have 2 identical hard drives mounted in caddies. If I have trouble with one of the drives I can just remove it and slide in the other caddy and then do a Restore and I am back in business. Would I be able to use the Recover disk button to bring the replacement drive up to date?
I am using Windows 8.0 and ATI 2016.

Hello Davidj,
If you are going to restore the volume with the operating system on it you will need to boot your machine with the bootable media. The same if you are going to migrate your system to the different hardware. For all other cases you could use the restore option in the GUI or just browse the image in Windows Explorer if you want to copy only few files.
Thank you,

David,
Congratulations on being prepared! You have obviously given this a lot of thought. The tray & caddy system, with a cloned drive, ready to take over, is an excellent way to recover from a disk crash or malware attack. Restoring the most up to date backup gets you up and running with the least amount of data loss.
Have you practiced a "Restore"? A restore of the latest backup to the other disk accomplish several important functions. It would make your backup drive up to date, so you wouldn't have to perform a clone. Then booting from your backup drive would validate that you have set up your operating system backup properly.
As Ekaterina states above, you should use rescue media to perform the Restore. This will validate that your rescue media can see all of the disk drives needed for the Restore. Some of the newer SSD drives require WinPE rescue media for ATI to see all of the drives. The last thing you want is to be building a WinPE disk in the middle of a disk crash.

Ekaterina and FtrPilot,
Thank you for your response to my query. Ecaterina, your response was about what I expected, but I wasn't sure and your clarification is very much appreciated.
FtrPilot, You asked "Have you practiced a "Restore"?" I have used the Restore feature in Acronis True Image ever since 2009, and many times it has saved my system, I have never done a clone, Full Backups only. I recently upgraded to ATI 2016 and I was unable to recover my ATI 2016 backups. With the help of two other Acronis MVP Volunters, Steve Smith and Boobo_3COX1, I was able to recover these backups, see forum number 112885. Back when I first started using ATI 2009, and the forum was on Wilders Security Forums, there was a member that went by the name of Pilot, and he was a big advocate of the "tray and caddy" system. I thought the idea was just great and I have been using it ever since.
