NEW RELEASE NEW Build 6569

Where are the release notes for build 6569. I always forget where to look.
My update to build 6569 went just fine.... HOWEVER..
I see frequest issues with build updates and the reference to uninstall and use the cleanup tool that also requires the user to execute a registry edit.
Most of us, not sure what most is...50% more...maybe less, Can and DO NOT have an issue with editing the registry BUT there are some and maybe many that are very uncomfortable with a registry edit. Some do not even know what that is.
Registry edits can be extremely dangerous.
I feel that software updates should NEVER require the user to resort to a manual registry edit to cleanup or re-install the software.
Maybe Acronis should step up to the plate and provide a rock solid tool for removal and re-installation of their software ?

Steve, I agree that editing the Windows Registry can be very dangerous if done by someone without the necessary understanding and knowledge of what they are doing! Having said that, to date I have not needed to touch the registry when using the Acronis Cleanup Tool, I have just run it and then restarted the system and it has done all that was needed.
In the KB document for the 2015 Cleanup Tool - it does state the following:
Solution
As a precautionary measure, prior to using the Cleanup Utility, we highly recommend that necessary backup measures be taken to preserve your data. This can be done using Acronis software or third party software and/or hardware.
This could be clearer, i.e. if going into the Registry, export the whole registry before making any changes / create a System Restore point / make a full backup image etc.
Larry, there have been a number of reports of people encountering Access denied errors when upgrading to build 6559 with several different factors involved.
In some cases, it seems that the in-application upgrade has failed on some systems - the answer to this situation has been to download the new build installer from your Acronis Account and install again in a 'Repair' install. For some users, it has been necessary to do a 'clean' install of the new build.
For other cases, the cause of the Access denied error has been active security applications on the affected system, for some it has been Bitdefender Anti-Ransomware, but it could be any security / antivirus software that either objects to the Acronis components, or prevents those components from being installed.
If you can try disabling your security programs on your Sony Windows 10 laptop and running the full build 6559 installer again (disconnected from the internet for safety). If this works, then please feedback both here and using the product Feedback tool (in Help) to let the developers know what security program is involved etc.
On the question of support, please realise that this is a user forum - again, please use the product feedback tool to make your concerns known to the Acronis support people directly about whether new builds should qualify for a further 30 days of free support or not.

Steve, Thank you for your reply to my post.
1. To be clear I have ATI 2016 not 2015 and it is build 6569 I am after not 6559.
2. I had in prior attempts disabled Avast shields before running update and posting but it failed on three attempts.
3. I had disabled Avast shields in prior attempts but just did it again - disabled all shields and opened ATI 2016, got prompted for the update and ran it. It failed again. I should mention that during the attempts the screen background goes black multiple times with only the Acronis update box visible. About 3/4 of the way through the update it fails - always at the same spot.
4. My plan is first to make a May full image backup then try to find the downloaded installer (help please on location or how to remove the already downloaded installer would be helpful) and delete it thus forcing a new download and then try to update with that.
5. if #4 above does not complete it sounds like the only way to go then would be uninstalling ATI 2016 and do a clean install. This seems like an awful lot of work to get this update. Is it required? What enhancements or features am I gaining with the update?
6. I appreciate your comment: "the answer to this situation has been to download the new build installer from your Acronis Account and install again in a 'Repair' install" - Could you elaborate a bit on this - how to download a new build installer and install in a repair mode? Must I delete the existing ATI2016 first? Could you provide a few instructions on where, how and when to do these steps?
Thank you very much for your offering. Off to do that May Full Image backup. Be back online in an hour or two. Larry

Larry, if you go to http://www.acronis.com/ then click on My Account you can then sign in to your Acronis Account (assuming you already have one and have registered the serial number of your product), or you can create a new account (Sign up) if you haven't done this yet. Once signed in, you will see a list of your registered products, including download links to the latest version installer and bootable rescue media etc.
To do a repair install, simply run the Acronis installer over the top of your already installed software, if asked whether you want to Uninstall or Repair, choose the latter.
If it is necessary to do a 'clean' install, then the ATIH 2015 Cleanup Tool can be used - it works for 2016 as well as 2015 and earlier releases. Come back to us if you need guidance on doing a clean install or refer to the KB document quoted earlier for the Cleanup Tool.
The main reason for staying upto date with the latest 6569 update version is to gain advantage of the fixes which have been included in this, this provides better support for more recent disk drives / SSD's as well as resolving other issues such as the Subject field of Notification emails etc.
From your point 2. above, it seems from my own experience of doing these upgrades recently, 6559 then 6569, that the upgrade process kills the Windows Explorer process then restarts it again a little later, which is what can give the black screen and loss of all desktop icons / status bar as it is happening. I suspect that this is because of the integration of ATIH with Windows Explorer to allow for double-clicking on the .TIB image files to explore them or take the options to Mount or Validate them.

Hello El Banko,
You can log into your online account and click on products and download the full ATIH installer from there. See this knowledge base for full details: https://kb.acronis.com/content/2900
The idea behind running the full installer again is that you should get an option to repair or uninstall since it's already installed. Hopefully just repairing it will fix things for you. However, if there was a bad install or carry over issues from previous installs/upgrades, cleanly removing and reinstalling may fix other underlying issues, but try the reapair instead and see how it goes. Agreed this is not ideal, but that is the nature of software and coexistence within an OS that has it's own updates, maintenance, and other applications that also do the same. This particular software needs to have full access to the file system, just like Windows (in order to backup from within Windows). As a result, it is a bit more finicky than most applications as it depends on the OS being healthyas well as Microsoft background services like Volume Shadow Service (VSS).

Gentlemen, I followed your very clear instructions (thank you) and downloaded 480MB installation file.
I then ran the install and it unpacked and DID NOT offer a repair option at all.
It started as UPDATE (only), went the same distance as the updater did and failed again with Access Denied again.
ATI 2016 has worked so well and the user interface so much improved I have recommended it to others so this is disappointing.
So yes, please, I will need a little direction and link to Cleanup Tool. I also have some questions.
If I uninstall ATI2016 will it lose the references to stored (externally) prior backups? If so, is there a way to have it locate all backups (about 4 Full Image backup)? They are on located on an external drive installed on another PC (obviously across the network).
Forgive me but I will ask again - do I really need this update? ATI works well as is. Since the two desktops got the update installed without issue I am surprised that the laptop is giving me grief. I am usually one who counsels others to update everything regularly.
Going with the Cleanup tool uninstall and then reinstall I presume I can use the 480mb file I just downloaded, correct?
Also, I saw some posts where editing the registry was required. Will there be any of that before or after the Cleanup Tool effort?
Thanks much for restoring my faith in Acronis support guys. Appreciate your timely replies so far. Thank you.

To save time:
Looked for Cleanup Tool on prior post link but did not find it. As someone pointed out it is for ATI 2015 but I presume should work for ATI 2016 as well.
Yo, Acronis - you are selling 2016 now - how about updating the (cleanup) tools as well? Thank you.
Saw that one can uninstall using Windows but when I did that I was not offered any repair options so did not uninstall until I hear from you.
Would it be worth trying the update in Safe Mode or not? (With network support).

Larry, to do a clean install do as follows:
First uninstall the program via the Control Panel (or use an uninstaller such as Revo).
Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), then restart the computer.
Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I stronly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.
Reinstall the ATIH software (download a fresh copy from your Acronis Account if needed or if you don't have the latest build version installer). Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).
Note 1: The cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history. If you want to protect this information, then open C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ in Windows Explorer - this may be hidden on some systems - if so, go to the Folder option in the View pane and enable hidden files & folders).
Save a copy of the Database and Scripts folders to another location to restore back later.
Note 2: In order to restore the above folders & contents, you must stop all Acronis Services & Programs else you will encounter locked files in the Database folder.

Steve, Thank you very much for hanging in there with me. I followed your guidance and I am happy to report that I have reinstalled Build 6569.
By the way, the background and icons never went dark during installation and I took that as a good sign and it did complete successfully.
Also, copying Database and Scripts worked out and the prior 4 backups list is there - the only loss is the green checkmark indicating they were Validated as Good.
Since I set Validation as default and I noted that all 4 were validated before all this started I am confident they are all good.
Skipping the registry steps was a good tip as it worked fine without them (so far anyway).
Your time and efforts are appreciated.
Best,
Larry

Hello Again, I have a followup question you may be able to answer.
On the Win 8.1 system I had completed the 6569 update without issue.
Now I get popups telling me that a new version is available - when I check my ATI it clearly shows Build 6569 so the popup is incoreect or I am missing something. ATI 6569 works well and a full backup was completed so I am confused with the popup!
Is there a way to clear the popup? I don't think I need to reinstall 6569 again just to get rid of the popup but you may say otherwise.
Thanks for your reply.
P.S. I just completed the Win 10 upgrade on the Win 8.1 PC and thought that might help clear the popup but it still pops up.

Whoa! Just checked again and now it shows ATI 6559. I did two PC desktops prior to the laptop so I know Build 6569 was installed.
I don't understand that - I am sure it was 6569.
Don't bother to answer these two posts and sorry for any inconvenience.
I am downloading 6569 now and will install it again. If you don't hear from me it all went well.

Every time I try to install 6569 it fails with an error saying "Access is Denied". I am logged in as Adminstrator. Can someone help me please.

Paul, please see the comments in post: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/117866#comment-356544 for this known issue.
See also the steps outlined in post #8 above in this thread on performing a clean install, but ensure that you have disabled your security programs temporarily whilst following these - work with the system disconnected from the internet for added security.
