Re-Installed, Now Scheduler Service is Stopped, Won't Start
History:
New install, successful activation, differential backup configured.
Scheduled backup at 10PM every day. Forgot to turn on the backup drive this evening. I turn on the backup drive. Now, Acronis reports an error, but also says successful backup. I restart Acronis (no reboot). Now Acronis will not start, always gives error of something like "cannot create backup file", with only option being click on OK. This produces no additional screen, Acronis does not come up.
I look in process explorer, two acronis processes running. I terminate both, attempt to restart unsuccessfully. I then uninstall successfully, then reinstall. Scheduler service now stopped, so I then reboot.
Now scheduler service is still stopped, acronis gives Event code: 0x00900023+0x0000FFF0+0x80070424, which yields no recognizable knowledge base error. Scheduler is still stopped, and Acronis will not make a backup.
What to do?
Thanks,
Dave

As you turn the backup drive on and off, it is possible that Windows changes the drive letter for that drive, depending on whether other disks, or flashd rives are plugged in.
In any case, it is better to assign a fix drive letter to the backup drive, choosing a letter late in the alphabet. In Windows 10, search for "create and format hard disk partitions", launch the windows disk management console, then right click on the grey area representing your backup disk, and choose "assign drive letter".
Recreate your backup task to point to that new drive letter.
Instead of turning off the drive, unless it is for data protection, you might want to set the drive to sleep using windows power options.

Thanks Steve. Followed your instructions. Downloaded schedmge.exe, ran as admin. The prompt was: "inst=no start=no loc task=0-0" Get task produced an error that said the "RPC server was not available".
Then I did: service install. This changed the prompt to: "inst=yes start=no loc task=0-0".
Then: service start. This changed the prompt to: "inst=yes start=yes loc task=0-0".
Then: get list. This produced no errors, just an empty list, as did task zap.
I last did: set logflags support, and left the schedmgr command window up.
The Acronis icon still shows on hover: "Schedule service is stopped". But, I have started Acronis and started a backup. It is doing a full backup. It shows no previous backups in the Acronis home window.
I clearly do not know what I am doing here. But, maybe if I now proceed down the same path as before, I can produce a log for support.
Any advise is welcome.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks Pat.
My backup drive is already assigned as M:\ and does not change whether the drive is on or off.
I do turn off the drive for data protection. That also should prolong the life of the drive hopefully. There might be a way to set that usb port to sleep using windows power options, but I don't know how to do that for a particular port.
Thanks again,
Dave

The full backup completed successfully, as evidenced by the presence of the appropriate files and folders on the backup drive.
I set a scheduled time for an additional (differential) backup for 10:00PM this evening. At 11:00PM, I find no evidence that it has done anything, but there has been no activity on my system since the full backup. I ran systeminfo_true_image.exe and produced a log. The log shows that something did happen at 10:00PM even though the Acronis icon in the tray still shows the scheduler has stopped.
Any comment is welcome.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, it might be helpful to see copies of the recent logs for when you did your testing if you can zip and attach them to your post in the forum.

Tonight's scheduled differential backup completed successfully as shown by the presence of appropriate files on the backup drive, and the expected times of Last Backup, Next Backup, and increased Total Size in the Acronis Home window.
Also, the Schedule Manager responds to a get list now with:
'CurUser 1 (Grandpas-PC\Grandpa): 1-1 ~*TrueImageHomeNotify* /dummy /script:"[serial number]" /uuid:"[serial number]" /run_mode:?RunMode?'
The current issue is the continued hover response on the Acronis icon in the tray that says "Scheduler service is stopped". Other than that, everything seems to be running normally.
Tomorrow, I'll leave the backup drive off at the scheduled backup time, and see what happens after I turn it back on.

Hello Dave, thank you for the system report zip file with logs etc.
For the most part all looks to be OK as far as I can tell with just a couple of exceptions...
I only see 2 Acronis Services installed on your Windows 10 system, the other 2 do not show at all which they should, even if they had been disabled. The missing 2 services are Acronis Sync and Non Stop Backup. Not sure if this is relevant but seems strange as would still expect to see them in the list even if not active.
The second issue is with Windows Task Scheduler which is throwing a lot of errors for Media Centre. One example copied below:
The description for Event ID 414 from source Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler cannot be found.
Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted.
You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\MediaCenterRecoveryTask
%SystemRoot%\ehome\mcupdate.exe
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
ATIH doesn't use the Windows Task Scheduler as far as I am aware, so again this may be irelevant?

So, what should I do?
I'm attaching the Acronis files that are loaded/run at start. I got them from ccleaner, and edited the file so that only Acronis stuff shows. (BTW, and FYI, I tried at first to attach the .txt file, but your system would not accept it, giving an unspecific error.)
It seems clear that the other two services are not there because they simply are not loaded. I have not attempted to activate any other devices to back up yet; could that be the reason for the lack of the Acronis Sync? Maybe likewise for the Non Stop Backup?
The error that you presented mentions repair. The web installer shows no repair option, only uninstall. I already did that though. And, the CD media installer shows no repair install either.

Dave, there are only two options that I can suggest at this point.
1. As this was a new install per your original post, you could contact Acronis Technical Support directly as per: 18623: How to get Technical Support: Tips, Tricks and Useful Information - are you within 30 days of purchase?
2. As this seems to be a potential bad install given the missing services and problems encountered, then my recommendation would be to perform a new clean install of ATIH 2016 as per below:
Perform a clean install of ATIH 2016
First uninstall the program via the Control Panel (or use an uninstaller such as Revo).
Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), then restart the computer.
Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I strongly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.
Reinstall the ATIH software (download a fresh copy from your Acronis Account if needed or if you don't have the latest build version installer). Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).
Note 1: The cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history. If you want to protect this information, then open C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ in Windows Explorer - this may be hidden on some systems - if so, go to the Folder option in the View pane and enable hidden files & folders).
Save a copy of the Database and Scripts folders to another location to restore back later.
Note 2: In order to restore the above folders & contents, you must stop all Acronis Services & Programs else you will encounter locked files in the Database folder.

Thanks Steve. I think I will try this. One question first.
How do you stop, and then restart all Acronis Services and Programs?
Not sure that's very important since it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to start with a brand new total backup.
Thanks again,
Dave

Hi Dave,
To stop all the Acronis services and programs - click on Start then type 'Services.msc' (without the quotes) at the Run prompt or directly, then select Services from the results shown. In the Services panel, right-click on each of the Acronis Services and take the option to Stop them.
To stop the Acronis programs, right-click on the bottom status bar and click on Windows Task Manager, then right-click on each Acronis program and take the option to End Task.

Download and rename these from .txt to .bat. Then right click and "run as administrator" to launch. The start script starts all services and sets the run type to automatic. The stop scrpt stops all services and sets the run type to disabled. Again, you must right click and "run as administrator".
If you have customizations of the services you normally want to run (for instance, I don't start Nonstop backup since I don't use it), you can put :: in front of a line to prevent that portion from running. You may not want to set the startup type to disabled anyway so you can comment out each of those lines if preferred.
Running the start script puts the services back to how Acronis sets them by default.
