E00070020 Archive Corrupt
Hi,
I’m having a little trouble restoring backups that I made of the system drive on our work computer. We have Acronis True Image Home 10.
I am continually getting a “E00070020 Archive corrupt” error. I am working with 4 backups, any of which I’d be happy to get to work. I am sure that at least one of the backups is not corrupt as I restored this only 6 weeks ago and it is stored on cd so nothing has changed.
I have tried the following:
Boot using rescue disk and restore off cd.
Boot using rescue disk and restore from a separate partition on the operating hard drive.
Boot windows from an old hard drive and from a separate partition on the operating hard drive.
Boot windows from an old hard drive and restore off cd.
All get the same error.
When I validate the backup files it says they are all corrupt. They do, however, mount as an image without any problems and I can freely explore. New backups that I have just made are validated without any problem (though I have not tried to restore these)
I am restoring with the same version that I have used to create the backups.
Can you please advise a solution? This computer is critical to the operation of my business. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Todd

Hey thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Much appreciated.
OK so following your suggestions i ran Memtest and then revalidated some archives.
Memtest came up with a bunch of errors.
I tried validating my archives from both a windows boot and from the Acronis disc. Both turned up the same results: The 2 test backups that i made yesterday both passed. The 4 archives that i have created prior to that all fail, including the one off dvd that worked 6 weeks ago.....
Wierd. Do you have any suggestions for what i should try next? I'm stumped.
Cheers
Todd

The first thing I would "fix" is the memory. Memtest should run without a single error. I assume you downloaded the latest version which I believe is 4.0.
Memtest is not known for generating reports of bad memory when it is good unless the motherboard has a very new chipset in it that Memtest doesn't support properly.
It is strange that you can validate the recent archives although they may use RAM a little differently and are missing the problem addresses.
If you have multiple sticks of RAM in your machine, and it will run without all of them, you can try removing the sticks and running Memtest on them individually or with one or two missing depending on your motherboard requirements. This will perhaps allow you to determine where the memory problem lies. Bad RAM can definitley cause valdiatation errors. TI is known to uncover RAM errors that often go undetected in normal PC use.

Awesome! I'll let you know how i get on with your suggestions. The upside of all of this is that i now have a good an excuse to upgrade my RAM. 2gigs here i come!

Ok it has been a while but i've found that it was one of the RAM that was causing the errors in Memtest. Memtest now runs clear.
The problem is that i'm still getting the “E00070020 Archive corrupt” error messages.
What do we try now?

Did you replace all the RAM in the PC?
Does Memetest run overnight with zero errors?
Have you created a new archive or is the problem with archives created before the new RAM?
I'd try creating and validating a new archive both within Windows and by booting from the TI boot CD. One or the other may work and this may provide a clue.
If you've done this and it fails, try running chkdsk X: /r on any partition that you are storing your archive on. Replace the X with the drive letter of the partition you are using. It is a good idea to run the command on all your partitions.
Look in the Windows Event logs for any disk related problems.
The Acronis Knowledge Base has a corrupt archive troubleshooting flowchart.

Why is it that all computers !!! . New or old have ram error with Verifying data E00070020. Im using WinXP Home, copying Hard disk(C) to hard disc (E) same Computer Verifying E00070020.

Not all computers have RAM errors and a valiation error can be caused by RAM but it isn't the only cause.
