Recovery Command Not Showing

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to recover from a saved back up and the " recover " command doesn't show up on the bottom tool bar. What can I do to recover a back up in this case .

I've had this happen after letting the database rebuild or receiving a message that the application failed to start.  I navigated to the backup .tib file in Windows Explorer, right clicked the first file in the backup and selected "validate".  Took a few minutes to start, but then it started validating in the GUI and after validation, I could recover in the GUI.

If you ever get in a pinch, and just need files/folders from the backup, you should be able to double click the first .tib file in Windows explorere and start navigating the contents.  Then copy and paste out of it.  Alternatively, you can try to right click the .tib file and "mount" it as a drive letter and do the same copy and paste.

If you need to recover a full disk or parition, your offline bootable recovery media is your best friend and will be needed if Windows can't start anywa so it's good to get familiar with it.

For this situation though, hopefully just validating it will bring it back to life in the GUI.  If not, you can also try deleting the task (just delete settings, not the entire backup).  Then you can click the drop-down carrot to the right of the            + add new backup           \/            that says "add existing backup" and navigate to the backup files and add them back that way.

The backup files should be fine, but something got thrown off with the tracking metadata in the database.

Thanks Bobbo for your comments . I'll try this and see what happens . If not I was considering  uninstalling and re-installing but may lose links to backups if I do this .
