Thread needs solution

After using Disk Director 12, DD12 recognizes first disk as "unitialized" but I can still access it. The disk comes up in Explorer and Windows Disk Management and I can get at the files, run programs, and boot up from it. One partition, one that was resized in Disk Director 12, is listed as "free space." I want to recover that partition and get rid of the "uninitialized" label that Disk Director 12 seems to have put on it but without disturbing any data that I can access.

Hello Paul,

As you may know, operations with partitions are potentially dangerous if there are issues with disk itself, connectors, controller, file system and partition table etc. Having observed an abnormal behavior, like in your case, I would create a backup of the entire disk first, to be on the safe side. You can use either Windows native backup tool or Acronis True Image for that.

Then check disk for errors, create a bootable media with Disk Director, boot from it and repeat resizing, this time just change the size by 1 MB or so. Boot back into Windows, start Disk Director and see if partitions are now recognized correctly.

Please do not use "Initialize disk" feature over the disk with useful data, even if they show as "uninitialized" in Acronis Disk Director. Disk initialization deletes all existing partitions with all the data on it. Use it only for new disks. In case if the disk with usuful data has been "initialized" (cleared, wiped), Recovery Expert tool, built into Disk Director will help to restore partition table and get back partitions and corresponding data on it.
