Acronis True Image 2016 Installation Fails

Thread needs solution

This program is driving me crazy.  I first attempted to do the update to build 6571.  Each time it failed with the error "Access is denied."

Following the knowledge base faq, I tried all three solutions for this error.  In the first solution it recommends intalling File Tracker Setup 2501.  That didn't install either.  It reports installation interrupted.

I tried turning off my anti-virus temporarily as shown in solution 2.  Still wouldn't install.

In solution 3 I uninstalled True Image and tried again.  Same error.  "Access is denied."  I left the anti-virus off for this as well.  I also tried to install the file tracker with True Image uninstalled.  Still won't install.

At this point I am totally frustrated.  I am past the date for product support, so hoping someone here has a solution.  And of course now I don't even have the old program running, so there won't be any backups until this is resolved.

DeweyMan. I recommend you do a clean install of the build 6571.

  1. Download the full installer from your account at www.acronis.com
  2. Uninstall using Windows Programs and Features.
  3. Use the Cleanup tool Acronis True Image 2016: Cleanup Utility | Knowledge Base to completely remove TI 2016
  4. Reinstall using the full installer. Right click on the installer and select "Run As Administrator".

Let us know if your are successful.

DeweyMan, please also see KB document: 58249: Acronis True Image 2016: Update to Build 6571 Fails with "Access is denied" which provides a small MSI file contained in a zip container to help with this specific problem.

Extract the MSI file then right-click on this and select Install then retry installing ATIH 2016 build 6571 again.

Steve.  That is what I already tried as I described in my original post.  I wasn't able to install the MSI file either.

I probably should have said earlier that I am running Windows 7 on an HP desktop with an Intel i5 processor.

DeweyMan, apologies, I must have skimmed your original post without taking in all you said!

I am surprised that you cannot install the MSI file, this would suggest a different problem than the normal Access Denied issue.

If you haven't already tried the steps given by Tom, then that would be the next step here.

Just to check, do you have any other security software installed beside the antivirus?  This problem has been shown to be caused by some antimalware / antiransomware products from names such as Bitdefender.

If you want a last update trial, then disconnect from the internet and stop all your security software, then retry the MSI first.

Not a problem Steve.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond.  Tom's suggestion did the trick.

Glad to hear it worked.
