Not enough room for 6 months of backups, how to reduce?

Thread needs solution

With TI 2016 I'm making version chain backups of two pcs onto a WD My Cloud drive. Seems TI wants to keep backups for 6 months, but the drive runs out of space after about 5 months. How can I reduce that time to 3 or 4 months and have TI automatically delete the old backups?

I'm not on-site right now (I'm getting backup failed, quota violation emails) but I remember trying to change that 6 months last time this happened and it didn't seem possible.

Did I miss something?

RamFade, welcome to these user forums.

You can control the number of backups kept and therefore the size of your backup version chain data using the automatic cleanup settings in your task configuration on the Backup Scheme page.

My own preferred cleanup setting is "Store no more than X recent version chains", where your backup storage drive would need to hold X+1 full backup files plus all the associated incremental or differential files for the X version chains.  This is because Acronis will not delete the oldest version chain data until the next full backup file has been created successfully.
