After upgrade to Acronis True Image 2017 backups don't get finished and some other behavior strangeness
Hello to all, I have been using Acronis True Image version 2012 and 2016 and now I have 2017, which by the way seems to be the only one working correctly for my setup *the 2012 version*.
Now after upgrading to version 2017 no backup has been finished yet.
Yes I ran already all system checks and seen through the sytem report for errors and no errors are reported nor any change in behavior.
No I have not defined a new backup job yet as to why should I this has to work!
Now for a little more detail about my setup:
- HP Elitebook notebook computer which I use at home and at my office
- on both locations I have a HP Advanced docking station with extra HDD built in which is mounted on drive letter D:
- on both drives I have the same path "D:\My backups\INTEL SSDSC2BW480A4" to which the backup job has it's destination set to
- I have a backup job set for every day at 09:30 to perform a full backup of my system drive
Now with version 2017 the backup either reports that the destination path is not valid or at the end of the backup it reports a write error without further explanation. After my last backup error I have exported the Acronis System Report and I have not detected any errors in the report.
In version 2012 this setup worked correctly except that version didn't have the option to delete old backups automatically, which was not a big deal as it did warn me about disk space running low on my D: drive and I had then manually deleted an old backup and pressed continue.
In version 2016 this setup worked correctly most of the time, from time to time the destination not valid error occured and at that time I had manually reclicked through the destination selection and it went on, but the thing that bothered me was the space running low thing, a warning did pop up, but instead of offering me an option to continue it just cancelled the backup (usually at the last 5-10%).
Now in version 2017 nothing works, it either reports destination invalid or it doesn't finish the backup with just a message "Last backup failed: write error".
Any insight on how to tackle this would be appretiated, I have already contacted support via live chat where the operator had made some checks on my computer but had to reboot after that, now as the problem persists I have already wrote two emails with my case number and no answer for 5 days.

Please download the MVP Log Viewer (link in my signature) and take a look at the logs for your backup tasks - post a copy here so we can advise on the content.

UrosG,
Did you also upgrade from 2012 to 2016 or did you uninstall the 2012 product prior to installing the 2016 version? This question needs to be answered as well.

Honestly I can not remember about that but since I have currently only the 2017 installed I must have uninstalled 2012 at some point and I hope that the 2016 installed insisted on uninstalling the 2012 first before installing 2016.

Unfortunately, from my own experience, Acronis tends to just install over the top of older versions rather than uninstall them, so I doubt that 2016 uninstalled your 2012 version when it was installed.
You can check this by taking a look at the log files in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs and see how far back your log files go in terms of the date they were created?
I would recommend doing a clean install of ATIH 2017 to eliminate any problems being introduced by any leftover files from any older versions of the product.
To do a clean install: First uninstall 2017 normally via the Control Panel.
Next, download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link below) and run this as Administrator, then restart the computer.
Finally, reinstall ATIH 2017 using the latest build installer (download from your Acronis account if needed).
Note: Using the cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history. You can save a copy of your task configuration files from the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder where these are held in .TIS files then copy these back after the new install, but you will need to reconfigure any schedule details.
