Unable to edit backup comments

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image 2017, Build: 8041

If I select an existing backup and click on the 'comment' icon, the text 'type your comment for the backup here' is displayed but is greyed out.

See attached screen dump.

Clicking on the text does not allow me to enter a new comment or edit an existing comment.

The only thing I have found that seems to make it work is to select a different backup first, then reselect the actual backup I want to enter a comment for, then click on the 'type your comment for the backup here' text, then wait for a few seconds. The window then appears to refresh itself and allows me to enter or edit the text.

There must be a bug here somewhere.

Annoyingly, the menu entry under 'advanced' that used to allow comments to be entered or edited has been removed.

Also...

The comment only allows a single line of text.

This is pretty useless - I want to list of all the important changes since the last backup.

Brian, I cannot reproduce the issue that you are seeing on my system with ATIH 2017 build 8041 - when I click on the bubble for task comments, then I see the initial entry box with the 'type your comments...' which when I then click on that box then changes to allow the text entry.

I am also able to enter multiple lines of comment text, which I just tested by writing Line 1, Line 2... Line 10 etc. The only feature that I see is that only 3 lines of text are displayed before I see scroll bars for the comment box, so am looking through a letter box view.

Acronis have only really added fixes for compatibility with the new Windows 10 Creators Update in build 8041 and have other fixes for known issues that are due to be released in a further build that is yet to be made available to all the users.

Ok - I didn't realise that scroll bars appear that allow multiple lines to be added/edited. My mistake - please ignore that one.

However, I think there is still a problem with not being able to enter or edit the text under certain conditions:-

In my case I have two backups: One for my C: drive and another for my E: drive. If I select the first backup, then quit and restart ATI, the application starts up with the first backup selected. In this situation, I can edit the comment.

However, if the second backup is selected when ATI restarts , I cannot edit the comment until I select the first backup followed by the second backup.

Can you try the same scenario?

Brian, I have tried to recreate this issue with various different backups that I have in my list and couldn't do so apart from where the backup is stored on a drive that is not accessible (due to not being connected), where in that case I am not permitted to access / edit the comments even after taking the option to Ignore that the backup drive is not found.

I also tried it with the drive used to store the backups powered off. In that case, the behaviour is as you describe.

The problem case happens when the backup drive is powered up and accessible.

The backup mode for both my backups is set to incremental. I wonder if the problem could be happening because of an ATI software update after the first full backup was created. I probably won't find out until I carry out a full backup. I try not to do that too often because it's a 1TB disk, so a full backup takes forever.

Brian, it seems unlikely that this issue will be happening due to full backups etc.

At this point I see only two real options:

Wait for the promised further updates for ATIH 2017 that should come in the next few weeks / month - or -

Open a Support Case directly with Acronis Support and let them look into this in more depth.

The only other suggestion would be to go for a clean install of ATIH 2017 in case this issue has arisen due to having upgraded multiple times from older builds / versions, but perhaps this should be a final action rather than the next one.
