Disk failure message... then its ok?

Thread needs solution

This morning I received an error on bootup "disk failure, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot". So I did, then got a blank screen. Powering off and on, Win7 screen appears immediately, then logon and everything is all ok.

So I backed up the system disk, and ran a chkdsk /f /r, no issues. Is this likely a random glitch (like a gamma ray from space lol), or does chkdsk not show all potential problems with sata SSD drives...?

arconz, sorry but difficult to do anything more that just guess or speculate as to the cause and seriousness of the 'disk failure' message on bootup without a lot more information to work with.

If the drive is a SATA SSD drive then it shouldn't suffer from the type of mechanical issues that an older spinning drive may show with age, but there is the possibility of a temporary drive logic fault that was cleared by the actions you took.

I would suggest checking on the SSD manufacturers support web site for any diagnostic tools they may provide which could check the health of the SSD drive or interogate any internal statistics that log such events.  If you have say a Samsung drive, then the Samsung Magician software may give you some of this type of information.

The other place to check is in the Windows Event Logs for around the time when the error was seen though if this was very early in the boot sequence there may be nothing to look at unless the drive stores error reports and logs them later when the OS is active?
