After windows update reboots, Operating system not detected?

Thread needs solution

Hello I recently had to use my Acronis bootable restore tool to recover my backup from Febuary 1st and I am running into an issue were after windows update runs my laptop can no longer find my OS on my SSD.  The problem seems to be that when the laptop tries to install the new windows update from last tuesday and reboots and a message appears saying the operating system cannot be found.  I have selected to restore defaults from the bios but this does not work.  I have seen an error message when starting the recovery operating that says something about the destination disk not being found and this is my issue after windows forces the window update on me.  I think this is clear enough.

-Thanks

Kylor, sorry to read of the issue with Windows Update but this does not sound to be caused by using Acronis True Image - rather, from your description, you were able to use ATI to recover your computer back to a backup made on February 1st.

What version build of Windows OS are you running when all is working OK, and what is the update that is causing the problem here?

I suspect that you have Windows 10 and may be on one of the older update builds prior to the Fall Creators Update (1709) and it is the latter that is being forced on you?

The way I have overcome this when I have had similar issues is to use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create a Windows 10 USB installer stick, then to run this myself directly within the running Windows OS to do the update without going through the Windows Update process.

See webpage: Download Windows 10 which has links for both the Microsoft Update Assistant tool and the Media Creation Tool - I have used both of these successfully to bypass the Windows Update process for this type of major Windows Update build.

All relevant information is in the link Steve provided.  Simply expand the first one for instructions on how to use the tool to upgrade your Installation.
