need help with backup
I have never used Acronis before, and I am not familiar with doing backups. There is a disc or image backup, a full backup, a partition backup, and a clone disk. It asks if I want to switch to disk mode or partition mode. I read the definitions but do not understand which process to use.
What I want to do is make a complete and exact copy of my hard drive so that if I ever have to start over from a reformat again, I can simply reinstall everything just as it was.
Recently I had my hard drive reformatted and XP reinstalled. I have been working a week to reinstall and update all my programs, put settings back where I want them, updating windows and Sony software, finding websites and placing shortcuts back on my desktop, etc. It has been a nightmare.
I did a backup on a WD external drive using the WD Smartware. But it is just a regular data backup of my files and folders.
I want to use the same external hard drive for the complete copy of my internal hardrive.
I could use some guidance.

Rick,
You do not say what version of Acronis you have. The process is pretty much straight forward and quite intuitive. If you’re using Acronis True Image Home 2011, here is a hand:
-- Choose Disk and partition backup from the main menu.
-- On the next screen, click on the “Switch to disk mode” link.
-- Check mark (if it’s not already) the disk you want to make an image of and, click on the down arrow at the right of the Destination box, choose one drive and file name for the image OR click on Browse and get your destination drive and folder.
-- Then write a name for the backup image in the box at the bottom. You may also want to change the backup scheme, by clicking on Backup Scheme link and change it to “Single version” instead of “Chain version” if you so wish.
-- At this point, you’re ready to start creating your image. Just click the button “Back up now” and see it go…
Hope this helped. Let us know how you did.
Good luck.
