Nonstop Backup Turns Off For No Reason - ATI Home 2011 (!!!)

Thread needs solution

Time to start a new thread.

Acronis kindly provided me with a free upgrade.
Nonstop Backup work a couple of weeks, then the same issue started again. NSB entered "Pause mode" (which is nicer wording than "stopped working") and cannot be started again.
I have an open case with Acronis, and received a new SnapAPI module to test, but it did not resolve the problem.

Acronis received two system reports from me. Let's see what they come up with.

Michael

Annoying issue at the side: they want me to send system reports, which are around 6MB. However it seems their email system doesn't allow such huge attachments. I finally had to upload via ftp.

Exact same problem, was told it'll be fixed in the next release due at the end of this month...

Acronis adviced to install the Acronis Nonstop Backup Diagnosis Tool.
Not sure what it exactly does, but it seems to start the backup process from scratch. So all my nonstop backup history is gone.
I am not convinced that this is a permanent fix.

The story continues...

The fix with the Acronis Nonstop Backup Diagnosis Tool lasted one day.

It stopped working again today.

Acronis, your product is seriously broken. Nonstop Backup is non-existent.

Michael

Hello all!

Thank your comments, and for sharing your concerns with us.

Acronis Nonstop Backup Diagnosis Tool updates your nonstop backup module and may fix issues that you have. That's why it fixed the issue for Donald.

As per our Experts detailed explanations, there were significant changes done to NSB technology, and we have made it more universal in regards to being stable in a large variety of different configurations. At the same time the developers have implemented some internal algorithms of protecting the data and system from overflowing - and Nonstop Backup may indeed stop sometimes.

Usually this happens when there is a lack of system kernel memory - which can't hold properly a large amount of data in it. To ensure the kernel memory is not overflown, Nonstop Backup detects when there is little free kernel memory left - and automatically pauses itself. Later it will make several re-attempt requests to restart automatically once the memory is freed.

So as long as the Nonstop Backup restarts automatically within an hour or two (depending on the memory), you really don't have to worry about this behavior - as it has been made especially to protect the system and ensure the most effective performance of Nonstop Backup. I can suggest you just to monitor the new version - and check if Nonstop Backup restarts automatically.

In case the issue remains, we will need additional diagnostic information, requested in the article. Michael, could you please specify whether you've sent it to support, and if you did - the case number? This issue is important for us, and we would like to make sure it's handled in a proper way.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
