Create ATI .wim and boot from D: disk ? With BCD entry ?

Thread needs solution

I would like to be able to boot ATI rescue media from a .wim that I have created, but not from an USB drive. Instead I would like to somehow boot from the .wim I create on the D: disk drive with an BCD menu entry. Can anybody help me with this?  Any help or assistance in accomplishing this  will be greatly appreciated.  I realize there is the F11 option but I would like to have the ability/option if possible. TIA

Could I create either an  .iso, mount the .iso, and extract it to d:\ATIRecovery for example then use Easy BCD to point to the xxxx.wim file ?  to create the BCD menu entry? or I can use BCDedit if I knew the commands to use. or  something like this?

Terry, you can boot the boot.wim anywhere you like as long as it is accessible from the bios (for instance, NOT on a bitlocker encrypted drive, or not on a NAS where additional authentication would be needed to connect first.).

EasyBCD is a tool that can easily help you create an additional boot menu entry.

In my experience though (I do this to make multiboot flash drives with multiple tools), easy bcd works best for legacy MBR entries and bootice by Pauly works best for UEFI entries and there are lots of youtube videos on how to use them.

Neither is very difficult to use, but do take a good full OS disk backup before you make any changes - just in case!

Terry, if you use the MVP Custom ATI PE Builder script  (see Rob's or my signature for link), then this creates both an ISO and WIM file by default each time the script is run, and you use these in conjunction with EasyBCD to add boot entries.

Note: ISO should be used with Legacy systems, and WIM with UEFI.

When starting EasyBCD on a UEFI system you will see the following warning message:

Once you are at the main EasyBCD panel, then make a Backup of your current settings!

Next, you can then look at your current settings followed by using Add New Entry to add the WIM file (for UEFI).

Make sure to click on Save Settings after adding your new entry and making a further backup of your BCD settings, plus as Rob has mentioned, have a good backup of your computer before making any changes so that you have a safety net for recovery in anything goes wrong!

The above images were captured on a UEFI boot Lenovo laptop and worked just fine to boot into the MVP version of the ATI 2019 Rescue media from the WIM file used.
