Restore looses XP License Verification

Thread needs solution

I performed a full restore on a windows XP machine. The restore seemed to go without problem. but now when I boot to the new drive and attempt to login, I get a message that windows was unable to verify the status of the XP license.

It asks if I want to verify the license, I select "Yes", then it tells me "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code 0x80004005"

Yes, I'm attached to the network.

I followed the steps on Microsofts site to correct this problem.. using dos to manually copy commands... but it didn't help.

The machine was running fine when it was mirrored. Seems the mirror would include the license info.

Anyone seen this before or have any idea why the image doesn't seem to work?

thanks.

You mght try performing a partial restore again except

Restore only the track0/mbr and whrn you next to the next screen which is the target screen, also choose the "Recover Disk signature".
Click proceed to restore those two items.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that idea, but I don't have a "Recover Disk Signature" option. The only option is "Validate before restoring." I have the home version. Does that matter?

The "Recover Disk signature" is an option on 2009-2010-2011. I do not recall prior versions having it but my memory could be faulty.

This option is located in lower left corner of the screen where the target disk is selected--just prior to the summary screen. It is one the same screen where you choose the target disk to receive the MBR.
