Acronis restore hangs on Lenovo M93p

Thread needs solution

I have been using Acronis for years, making image backups of my Lenovo M93p. I am using Acronis TI 2017. Last week I had to do a restore (using Acronis generated rescue media on USB) , and guess what, it did not work. At the end of the restore process, it hangs - never returns with the message "completed OK" or the like. I waited a full eight hours but it never completes. I tried to restore older images, same result. I downloaded ATI 2020 trial, and you guessed it - again, same result, the restore process hangs at the end. (I had ordered ATI 2020 at Amazon as well but given my problems, I sent this right back when it arrived). I have tried everything. Different drives; different PC; updated the PC bios; tried different backup parameters; NOTHING works. Restore hangs at the end no matter that I try, and the resulting restored volume gives boot errors (EFI corrupt). So after trying for days I started to search the web for alternatives. Best I found is called "Macrium Reflect", and the basic version is actually FREE! I tried it, works perfect. Same features; same backup and restore speed, and the restored image boots just fine, and no hangups after restore. The only thing is that the compression is not as good as Acronis, so the image file ends up being 20% larger. But hey; hard-disk space is not problem any more these days, so I can live with that. So if you struggle with Aconis True Image, which many apparently do reading the several blogs at the internet, switch to this Macrium Reflect. Works perfect, and the basic version is 100% FREE. I'm DONE with Acronis; I'm voting with my feet. Sorry.

Luke, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry to read of your restore problems but difficult to guess as to why you had a problem here without seeing more details of exactly what happened etc, which I expect is now history given that you have been able to restore your Lenovo using Macrium.

One further difference between ATI & Macrium besides compression, is that MR always creates Windows PE type rescue media whereas your older ATI 2017 media is normally Linux based and may not have support for some devices which WinPE does have support for.  ATI 2018 & later versions now also default to creating WinPE / WinRE media while still retaining the option to create Linux media if needed by users.
