Windows 7 64 Bit Recovery Issue

Thread needs solution

Booting issue after restore with missing boot file. Also Marvell 9128 devcie issue not seeing single SATA drive after rebooting with the Acronis Boot Loader.

Intel ICHR raid with two partitions (4 drives in mode "0". One partion is used for operation system. The other partition is used for general storage.
I have another drive that is controlled by the Marvell 9128 device. The first problem is that this drive appears when a stored image is selected. But when attempting to repalce this image the drive doesn't appear. The main issue is probably understanding Winows 7 64 Bit and the hidden system partition that is created during installation. This partition was not created on the boot drive but on the spare drive using the Marvell 9128 device. When I moved the images that were stored on the Marvell drive, I was able to compelte the restor process. However, the system would not boot indicating that a boot file was missing. I was able to recover using the Win install CD. I discovered that if I inlcuded the Windows created hidden system file and restored in along with my primary boot partition on the other hard drive that my system would boot properly.

So after rambling one here are my questions:

1. Where is the best location for the Win created hidden system partiltion? It seem that if it was on the same drive as the operation system that would be the better way to go. That way instead of needed to back up two partitions on separate drives you can select to just restor the drive that contains the operating and hidden system restore partition. I have assumed, based upon trial and error that the Win created hidden system partition must also be restored in order to boot.
2. Does Acronis Home Eddition 2011 support the Marvell 9128 device? I can see it when using Acronis from within Windows but not after rebooting using the Acronis Loadder.
3. The Windows hidden system partition is created during the Win 7 64 Bit installation automatically. What is the purpose of this file and where it the best location for it when there are multiple partitions and hard drives.

THANKS!

William,

Could you edit your post and transfer it to the TIH forum? More TIH users will see it there then here on the corporate forum.

1/3. Windows will normally create the 100MB system partition on your main drive, this doesn't have to be the case, as the BIOS only needs to look for a partition marked as active. However on the same drive is the less complicated way to go. This partition contains the BCD file which is the Win7 version of the boot.ini file, but more powerful - tinker with it at your peril.

Once installed do not move it as the entries in it will no longer be correct = no booting of Windows. If you have made a Windows 7 repair CD or you have a Windows 7 install DVD these can be used to repair some booting problems.

2. I think you might need to download the ISO version of the Acronis Rescue CD this uses different drivers and may be able to see your controller correctly.
