support?? Easy Fixes??

Thread needs solution

I have been using True Image for almost 10 years.  I recently purchased 2020 with hopes it would be the best. After installing it, I had to redo my LAN because of a move and the IP address scheme changed. Now, none of my backup routines work because it is trying to get to the old IP of the NAS.  One would think it would be a simple task to update the IP address of a destination target. BUT NO! Trying to explain this to their support isn't working. Logs, screen shots, everything provided and all I get is crickets or do this do that. OF course they tell me to create a new task, which works fine but if I ever need to restore from the old backups, I'm SOL. Go figure.

Mark, welcome to these public User Forums.

Unfortunately this is a known issue with most versions of ATI and has been raised / complained about to Acronis many times.

The easiest way to fix this is as follows:

In the ATI 2020 GUI, select your backup task to the NAS, take the Delete option from task menu but only elect to remove the task settings (not everything - which would fail due to the IP change).

Next, use the 'Add existing backup' option hidden behind the caret (v) near the normal 'Add backup' option, navigate to your NAS at its new address, select the most recent backup file for your removed task which will create a new task using that file name.
Note: only one file needs to be selected regardless of how many files exist for the task.

Finally, in the GUI, click on the 'Reconfigure' button for the added task and configure the settings you want for the task, including reselecting the Source too.

Another way to avoid this in future backup tasks is to use the host name of the NAS rather than its IP address.  A few weeks ago I made a change in my router that resulted in two NAS devices getting new IP addresses.  ATI on 3 computers went ahead as if nothing had changed.  (ATI on a 4th computer had a problem, but I couldn't tie it to the address change.)  I use DHCP-provided addresses rather than static addresses but it should also work with static addresses as long as your DNS server knows the host name.

I can't find the NAS via the name. I followed the instructions I found for this, including making sure Bonjour is running (I reinstalled iTunes since Apple no longer supports Bonjour along). I can't find it. Not under My NAS Connections nor under network.

TIA

Mark, how did your NAS appear in the ATI GUI when you selected it as a Destination previously before the address change?

Have you tried typing \\192.168.0.29 (using your own NAS IP address) in the top entry box?

Mark,

What brand and model is your NAS?

Are you using Windows 10?

If you are running Windows 10, what version is it and did you upgrade Windows 10 along with your LAN change?

Are you running any third party firewall?

Mark, I have never just found my NAS (Synology) under the NAS or Network branches. But after entering the NAS in the address box as Steve suggested, it works just fine.

In the past I tried to find a way to make it automatically found, but was never able to get something configured to do that. I don't even worry about it any more.

My experience with Synology NAS is the same as Bruno's. I have a dim recollection that there was a beta version, could have been ATI 2017 where it was listed.

On device names rather than IP address, the default for Synology NAS is "DISKSTATION"; the device name will (usually) be displayed in the Explorer listing of network devices.

That is my experience, too.  And I use the host name rather than IP address is the address box.  If, in a Windows Command window, you can successfully perform a PING or NSLOOKUP using the NAS host name, ATI will also be able to find the device by its name.  At least it has always worked for me.
