Exploring tibx to restore a file - windows explorer problem

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have a Picasa corrupted database, I would like to see if I can copy a backup file which should be under

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Google\Picasa2Albums

I have clicked on my tibx file which is around 400Gb on my NAS

Then Was able to click on C: , then Users , then when I click on my username, the window freezes and seems to load for ages.... without any result...

I tried rebooting windows explorer by using the task manager and but the same thing happens again...

Any tip on how to browse my backup file ?

Thanks in advance

Try opening up the ATI User Interface and going to the Recovery tab for that backup. You should be able to navigate it from there.

It may be slow but give it time.

hello Bruno thanks for your answer.

I managed to locate the database folder but it is 50Gb and my space on the C drive is only 13Gb.

I have made a copy of the original folder on another disk but not sure what I can do now with the folder and files of the backup.

I have a software called beyond compare (to compare files) and I read on this forum that I could mount a backup as a drive and then compare the files.

This would allow me to only put the modified files back in place.

But not sure how to mount the backup as a drive.

Any idea ?

Since you only have 13GB free on your C: drive you may have other issues.

My recommendation is to move the folder to another drive. If the drive you've already recovered to is an internal drive, that is better. The method is to create a symbolic link.

As luck would have it, I don't need to describe to you what to do. I found a web site that does just that... for Picasa.

I hope this solves your problem.

Hello again

I used the recovery function and recovered the Picasa folder wich was successful.

I chose "overwrite" in the options.

Strangely after the the recovery, I only had 400Mb left of space on the drive :/

Any idea what might have happened ?

Anyway it didn't solve my problem and Picasa is still crashed...

:(

Thought of recovering the whole disk (since Windows Restore won't work either) but I am a bit afraid that I could loose everything in case something hoes wrong :/

Edit: thanks for the link by the way I will look into it.

Hello again.

I decided to go with the link you provided first time I use a symbolic link didn't know you could do that...

I deleted db3 on C drive and I am now rebuilding the database from scratch on another disk.

My C drive has now 71Gb of free space which is much better

Glad to hear you are getting space back.

You might also check for things you can delete. Look into...

- empty recycle bin

- disk cleanup tool

- reduce space used for restore points

And, there is a program called TreeSize Free that can give you a good view of where space is occupied on the drive.
