Encrypting password protecting backup files

Thread solved

Just upgraded to 2021 (build 30290)  because I've been bombarded by ads. I hadn't installed a new version a few years, so thought I should keep up maybe and get the latest and greatest.  I've been using Acronis since version 7.  Pretty sure I know how most things work at this point for my own purposes.  Well, I'm trying to configure a weekly incremental backup that goes onto my external drive.

Problem is, I like to be able to encrypt the backup files, and I thought I knew exactly where this was under the Advanced tab, in "Backup Protection," except that item is grayed out.  I'm reading section 3407 of 2021 manual. That seems to confirm I'm in the right spot, but it says "Enter the password...confirm the previously entered password" but both blanks are grayed out, but I cannot choose the encryption method.  That is also disabled.  See attached png of screen.

Les, encryption / password protection can only be set when a new task is created and before any backup files have been made by the task.  After the task has run, the option is no longer available.  This has been like this for a long time across many releases of ATI.

The same applies to Compression settings and the Data Centre for Cloud backups.

I realize that, and saw that in the instructions.  I had never run a backup with that instructions set and did not even intentionally save the settings, but I think when I went to look at another set of backups, Acronis either saved or I saved accidentally.  By starting over, I was later able to choose a password on the first pass through the settings.  I figured this out pretty quickly, but couldn't come back to comment because my post wasn't approved.

Thank you for your response. That most likely was the issue.
