data sheet with Acronis backup limits
I looked through the Acronis Cyber Backup data sheets searching for the limits like
- maximum size of a TIBX archiv
- size limits in ASN (Acronis Storage Node)
- size limits of protected VM partitions
Unfortunately, I found none.

Hello Thomas,
thank you for posting on Acronis forums!
- maximum size of a TIBX archiv
There are no file size limits except file system limitations. However, please note that tibx file is a sparse file. The possible error message related to a file size that you could see and ways to overcome it are described in the respective KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/61704
- size limits in ASN (Acronis Storage Node)
It depends on the datastore cluster/block size: we recommend setting the maximum block storage size.
- size limits of protected VM partitions
It also depends on your ESXi storage settings.

Peter, thanks for pointing me to the best practices paper. I will need to go through this.
Maria, thank you for you answers.
To give an example, Acronis will have no issues protecting a Linux file server VM that has, through LVM, sizy partitions like 10 TB XFS file systems (with vdisks about 2-4 TB size each)?
Will such a VM be protectable through the VA agent? Can we split the full backup into portions to get it done in a reasonable time frame (which is quite a separate issue from this thread)?
Best regards, Tom

Hello Thomas.
Will such a VM be protectable through the VA agent?
Yes, we do not expect any issues with the environment you described. You can test it with a trial version.
Can we split the full backup into portions to get it done in a reasonable time frame (which is quite a separate issue from this thread)?
No, there is no option to resume a backup.
I recommend that you look through the respective KB article for more details on algorithm of backup in ESXi environment: https://kb.acronis.com/content/36125

Maria, thanks.
Regarding your anwer "No, there is no option to resume a backup": what I meant was splitting up the full backup of a sizy VM. Shouldn't this be feasible by applying appropriate filters in the backup options / file filters / "Back up only files matching the following criteria", and let the VM run in separate steps with different filters set?
Of couse, it would be our responsibility to meet consistency requirements across the separate backup portions.
Thanks for sharing your opinion on that idea.
Tom

Hello Thomas!
Sure you can split up backup by volumes or specific files to multiple plans, if you are aware that it's your job now to make them consistent as a whole, should you need to restore all of it.
There could be a limit to how much you can divide the work though. Since the agent can only execute one backup a time, if you have relatively fast backup frequency (close to the time a backup takes), the agent could work all the time and still not meet your schedule.
