Clone NVMe to NVMe without USB enclosure

Thread needs solution

Hi, I just bought an one TB NVMe SSD (WD black SN750) to replace my current 256GB NVMe drive. My ROG notebook has only one m.2 socket. And I don‘t want to buy a NVMe adapter/enclosure to clone the Windows boot drive... So, is it possible to clone the 256GB NVMe to a SATA SSD (500GB) first and then from that SATA drive to the new 1TB WD NVMe? Are there alignment/sector errors to be expected? Thanks in advance!

Hun Dred, welcome to these public User Forums.

The answer here is to not use cloning at all and instead to use Backup & Recovery to do this type of migration.  This is what I did myself when upgrading a 128GB LiteOn NVMe M.2 SSD to a new Samsung Evo 970 Plus drive and faced the same decision.

See forum topic here where I documented the steps that I used for my own migration, including screen shots of the process used.

I have used the process suggested by @Steve Smith and it worked well.
