Every two hours?

Thread needs solution

How can I do a frequent backup. I set Build 4039 to Frequency: Daily and Start: Every: 2 Hours. It has not done a backup since August 18.

It says next scheduled backup is at 8:50pm, approximately 12 hours from now.

Also, is there a way to minimize the software to the system tray? If I close the UI, does the service still continue to run so backups are made, or is it shut completely off? I would prefer not having the software minimized to the task bar.

Never got a good answer to these questions. I have since uninstalled the online backup solution, and continue with regular Acronis Home and another online solution from another vendor.

I do all sorts of frequent backups Les including similar to those yourself. Any backups you specify will run as you scheduled without anything appearing constantly in the system try unless it is the non stop backup. When jobs run they will appear in the running tasks list.

My experience was that it would make the backups when it said they were next scheduled, but it did not run them as frequently as the two hour interval I _thought_ that I had set it to. It seemed to be on its own schedule, and not mine. Even though I thought it was set to two hours, it made a backup on August 23, August 24, and August 26. Realizing it did not seem to be sending periodic snapshots of files I was working on to the web storage, I then abandoned it. I fully expect that this could have been user-error on my part in setting up the scheduling, but perhaps it should not have been so difficult to set and confirm my desired backup frequency. As I said, I've now moved on and settled in on Acronis for local backups and another product for online backups. My main concern in that regard is the ongoing viability of the outfit I have selected.

Without further details Les I can't comment because you mention other products and are not clear about what your strategy is regarding backing up.

I'm willing to provide more details and reconsider the online product in the future if I'm able to get it to work as desired. Let me see if I can explain what happens and why it doesn't perform as expected.

Desired backup strategy: Scan every two hours and upload changed files to server.

To achieve this, I open Acronis True Image Home 2010 Online Backup. Under Schedule it says, "Run the task at 8:50:00 PM every day." Above that, it says 'You have no backed up data from "VAIO1" yet.' I click on the link to set the schedule, and choose under Start: "Every 2 hours." I click OK. Main screen still says "Run the task at 8:50:00 PM every day" despite the fact that I just set it to run every two hours. Why is this?

Anyway, I now have waited seven hours since doing so, Acronis online still reports "You have no backed up data..."

Since it doesn't seem to have made any backups overnight, I decide I should click the button marked "Back Up Now" that has a little blue circle with an arrow pointing up. When I click on this button, two dialog boxes pop up. One is modal and says "Online backup" in the title bar, and "Preparing for online backup...
Source: c:\Documents and Settings\Les Seiler\My Documents
Time Remaining: calculating
Data transfer speed: calculating
Preparing...

Followed by a progress bar that never progresses. It has two command buttons, "Hide" and "Suspend."

The other dialog box is right behind it and off center from it. It has title bar, "Error." It says "Error the previous backup operation has not been completed yet. Please try again in a minute." You cannot close or move this one until the one above is closed.

If you wait for the Online Backup window to progress close, you are wasting your time. It will never do anything. Hours later, no progress, still calculating. This to backup 2gb of files I could have copied manually to a server using FTP. Instead you choose "Hide" and both dialog boxes disappear and the program minimizes itself to the task bar. If you restore the program, it is still sitting at the main screen, and never does anything. You can sit for hours. And now the program is somewhat unresponsive. You can click on anything, and nothing happens. I think this is because the dialog boxes are still open, you just can't see them. To see the dialog boxes, you go to task manager, use "Switch to" to get back to the application, and your two dialogs are back open.

In the past experience, although it hasn't been running for 24 hours yet this time, if you're lucky, you might get one backup done in 24 hours. If you're not, you may get one every couple of days. You definitely do not get backups every two hours, even if you go in and edit a file to see if it finds it and uploads it.

This time, I looked at the log, and I do see some error codes last night at 9:03PM. A blank line in the error log that says it's Error code 20, when you click on the details, which has no information in the KB. This is followed by "Operation has completed with errors" that reports Error code 5 when you click on its details. Again, no further explanation or information when you look that code up in the KB.

[Edit]Since posting, I have another error code: 0x00D6001E, and again KB has nothing on it. Still letting it sit there, hoping it will back something up before tonight at 8:50PM.

BTW, when I try to fill out a form for support, it wants me to choose a product, but Online is not one of the products in the pulldown. See attached screen capture.

OK, it backed up this morning at 6:41am, some ten hours after starting. Since that time, it does appear to be changing the next scheduled backup time every two hours. For example it is now saying the next one is coming at 4:40pm. So the present installation appears to be working as desired after a rocky start.

So basically, it sat there from 8:50pm until 6:41am, even though it was supposed to be backing up every two hours. Thereafter, the log reports that it ran a backup at 6:41, 8:40, 10:40, 12:40, and 2:40. Also, I have tried the "Backup Now" button, and it appears to be working now without the second error message window behind the "Online Backup" progress dialog window.

Similar problems.

I am trying to use Acronis Online Backup with True Image Home 2011 to backup about 50G of documents, media, and data from a Windows Vista x64 machine. The online backup through my home network appears to be INCREDIBLY SLOW (says it will take more than 10 days). I keep reaching around 12% completion according to the icon in the system tray, when the backup quits. On the first couple of attempts, the program indicated that the backup has been "suspended." I assumed this was because my internet connection hiccuped. (Let's face it, broadband access to American homes outside major cities is suboptimal at best....)

I removed all my data from the online backup and set up to try again yesterday evening. When the backup suspended again, I restarted the backup on top of the existing data and left it overnight to see what would happen. This morning the backup has "failed," no additional data was backed up, and I have an error message "The previous backup operation has not been completed yet. Please try again in a minute." with "Error Code: 0x00D6001E." There is no documentation in the Acronis knowledge base on this error code. (There is mention of this error code in forum posts starting in October 2010.)

FYI, I just upgraded to Acronis True Home Image 2011 from 2010 and I have been using True Home Image to back up my home computers to home network storage for about a year. This function is OK, but automation does not work with my password protected system and running Acronis on my computers is buggy at best: the program is slow to load, hangs up and needs to be restarted at least half the time, crashes another ten percent of the time, and about ten percent of my back up files appear to be corrupt.

I am coming to the conclusion that I made a HUGE MISTAKE choosing Acronis as my local and online backup program and I am now going to look elsewhere.

I am posting this comment to three forum threads entitled "18235: File upload in background after suspend," "13660: Every two hours?," and "7902: Online Backup Barf? Event code: 0x00980192" because online backup issues I have experienced are discussed at all these threads.

I've uploaded 90GB using online backup and it seems to work quite well.
You find it "INCREDIBLY SLOW" but what is your upload speed ?, mine is 100Kb/s (download is 1.3MB/s) so I max at around 9GB of upload per day.
If you cannot keep your PC online 24/24 then just backup a small folder, then add to the backup an other folder, etc. At the end (in ten days or more) all will be online.
For the first backup I've asked to keep only one release of each files, because if time stamp of the files changes between two runs then the file will be uploaded again creating a second release (in any case a time stamp difference will make online backup to upload the file again).

Seems that TI online is not working file per file even if stating so in the windows that shows progress.

The time left is always wrong, imho it assume that it has to reload all files again.

The web page (https://storage-eu.acronis.com/ in my case) always report 250GB free (which is wrong).

Restore speed from the web page can saturate my inbound bandwidth at some hours and be very slow (with pauses) at some others... Have to perform a 24h test and make a graph.
