Problem with TI2010 7154 Update

Thread needs solution

After updating TI2010 to V 7154, I now get an 'Cannot open backup archive on the specified...'. This happens when the validation of the backup starts. Prior to this time, I see the file 'I:\Sammy Images\Working Files Backup1.tib' being created in the correct location. It seems that after renaming it to: 'I:\Sammy Images\Working Files Backup.tib' it is being deleted and, therefore, it cannot be validated.

Using W7 64 bit Ultimate and the 7154 Plus package. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the problem persists. Drive I is an external eSata drive. All worked normally in the previous vesrsion.

The easiest course of action might be to create a new task pointing to a new folder. I would also suggest you change the drive letter from I to x or y or z before creating the new task. Sometime, the insertion of another device (flashdrive or camerea or printer) can cause the external to be assigned different drive letters. Assigning x or y or z (inside Windows Disk Management) can reduce the possibility of an unwanted drive letter change.

Have you tried to validate the backup as a separate operation?

Drive I has not changed it's letter. I see the backup being created in 'I:\Sammy Images\Working_Files_Backup1.tib' but when the backup is completed and, presumably, the file is renamed to 'I:\Sammy Images\Working_Files_Backup.tib', it disappears and there is no file there to validate! This did not happen prior to the update to 7154. Also, sometimes all works ok and then next time it doesn't and the file disappears. I have tried it on another hard drive and the result is exactly the same: it works 1st time and then fails on the next backup.

Back to the previous version i'm afraid.

What backup scheme are you using? What settings are you using? Have you tried some different settings?

My Data
Full>a new backup overwrites the previous one
Create new backup archive
Validate backup archive
etc

Yes, have tried different settings.

After re-booting, the backup works ok. Try again after 5 mins and it fails as the created backup file has disappeared. It always then fails until the computer is rebooted.

Consider using this setting for keeping only one full backup. You can adjust to keep more or the original if you wish.

Thanks, but I don't see this screen anywhere in TI2010. Perhaps it exists in TI2011?

In fact, it often also fails after a re-boot. I have been using TI for a long time now but, recently, the quality seems to have deteriorated markedly - as noted by many, many others. Going back to the previous version. Note that I also went back to TI2010 from TI2011!

I can confirm that TI2010 7046 works correctly. Therefore, a MAJOR bug has been introduced in the 7154 update. Great stuff Acronis QA!

Andrew,
My apologies. My illustrations were for the 2011 version. I am running XP pro, sp3 and some of my backups are to external usb and external eSata without issue.

No worries Grover, I thought you might be talking about 2011. Thanks for your help, but I've gone back to 7046 which works ok and doesn't delete the existing backup and then (often) delete the new backup (...(1).tib) before trying to validate it! Since 7046 works ok, there must be a bug in the 7154 update.

I have the same problem. My backups disappearing one after one now!
The problem is the same both local and on a NAS disk I put some backup on.

Got w7 x64
Same data as Andrew:
Full>a new backup overwrites the previous one
Create new backup archive
Validate backup archive

Its a BIG bug!!!

Yes, this ia a major bug which has now been verified by a number of users and makes 7054 completely unusable. In spite of propagating info about this in many threads, there has not been a single instance of acknowledgement by an Acronis person - amazing!! I'm certainly NOT going to pay for rasising this 'officially'!

Hello all,

I would like to thank everyone for their participation, their help and patience.

We are aware of this problem and are now working to get it corrected. I will keep an eye on this issue and provide you with an update as soon as I have the information.

As a temporary workaround please select incremental backup instead of full (with the overwrite option).

I am very sorry for any inconvenience and if you have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

This was good news :-)
I've gone back to 7046, waiting for a fix. Very good to know that you're working on this.

Good news indeed! However, it is absolutely astounding that such a major bug could have slipped through QA testing.

I recently noticed that I was still back a version (7046), and I was about to update. Are you all suggesting holding off for a new update, or are most people having no problems with the 7154 (12/27) update?

Hello all,

Thank you for replying.

Corey, if build 7046 cannot function on your machine for some reason and you need to update it to the latest build and you are sure this will resolve the issue, then yes, you can update but please make sure you do not have the following backup option:

Partition/file backup (overwrite option enabled).

We are close to releasing an update although I cannot provide you with a timeframe.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Nope, 7046 seems to be working fine with my Win7 setup, so I will wait before updating. Am I correct that there will be a corresponding update to the Plus Pack at that time as well? I got PP for free when I did my last update (to 2010) but I don't think I ever installed it.

Thanks for replying.

Corey,

If there is a new build for the 2010 version, the update for 2010 TrueImageHome will show in the 2010 registration update page. Assuming that you have registered or will register your PlusPack serial number, a corresponding update will be found in the Plus Pack listing. Any update of a new build for 2010 will be free. You only have to pay when you decide to update to a completely new version such as the 2011 (or 2012 whenever in he future such a product is released) and you will need to buy both TI and PP if you want both.

Hello all,

Thank you for your patience. We just released a new hotfix update for Acronis True Image 2010 Home.

Please check this post for additional information and instructions.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Thanks, 7160 has fixed the problem. However, I read elsewhere that backing up to a USB3 device is problematic although I haven't tried that here.

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for the follow-up.

There can be a number of issues with USB interface in general, detection, errors or backup speeds.

Several of our programs support USB 3.0, please check this article for the list.

If you are having trouble, please let me know.

Thank you.

Yes, Astounding indeed. Acronis upper management needs to take Action. I've been using True Image since version 8. The severity and number of bugs in recent versions has increased to the point that this software is no longer reliable. I just checked and found that I had no images because this bug was deleting/not saving them without my knowledge. Even the logs showed they were created! I'm glad I caught it and applied build 7160. I truly hope that someone with power at Acronis can see what is happening to the company. I'm testing another imaging product to replace Acronis due to these severe bugs. Disk imaging software must be rock solid reliable; the way True Image used to be.
