Windows XP Volume License - Windows Product Activation - Only on Custom Built PCs after a Universal Restore
I have an Acronis image that I've used on numerous makes / models of hardware without issue.. This same image is giving me an issue on a PC that is a custom build (IE: Not Compaq, Dell, etc)..
When I restore to this hardware it's saying I have to activate windows? It's a volume license which doesn't require activation!
I also had this same issue when restoring to a VM before..
Any ideas?
Thanks!

May be it's not actually a volume license, but SLP OEM? So it auto-activates on brands but not on custom build or VM.

I have restored this image to numerous HP models with different motherboards, CPU's, video cards, etc.. Why does it work with all of those?
It's definitely a volume license.
Thanks for the replies.

Because they all are HP, and there is information stored in motherboards' BIOS that make Windows activate.
In system properties like this - http://www.techdoctor.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/xp-system-contr… ,
in the product id (sequence of four groups of digits and letters) is there instead of OEM one of 270, 470, or in range 640-659 as it should be for volume license?

Thanks!
The key in the image shows OEM so I guess the image was created with an OEM version! :S

Is there any way to change an OEM licensed copy of Windows to a Volume Licensed copy so I don't have to recreate the entire image from scratch?
Thanks!

Never mind.. Looks like I have to do a Windows repair install and enter the VLK to fix it..
