Cannot clone laptop HDD with either TI 2010 or 2011 on Windows 7 64bit, anymore!

Thread needs solution

Hi
Please see this - http://forum.acronis.com/forum/19256 - and also:

why can I not clone from Laptop to external 'empty' HDD anymore?

why do I have to connect empty HDD into Laptop and clone from external W7 HDD?

I only use the clone facility of TI to weekly clone the laptop HDD and now I cannot do it - why?

Paragon does it.

Hello Pincopallino,

Thank you for finding time to open a thread regarding these questions, I will be glad to address them.

The rule to insert the target disk into the laptop is related to the Windows boot pecularities: one cannot boot from the USB drivem and if you clone to the drive, connected via USB, it will not contain proper boot record. The important point to remember is that you need to put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old one via USB. Only after this you may do the cloning. Otherwise you will not be able to boot from the new cloned drive. As such, hard disk bays cannot be used for target disks. For example, if you have a target hard disk (i.e. the new disk to which yoy clone, and from which you intend to boot the machine) in a bay, and not physically inside the laptop, the target hard disk will be unbootable after the cloning.

The cloning should be done from Acronis Bootable Media (created on CD/DVD or Flash). When cloning from Acronis Bootable Media, you do not need to have an operating system or an Acronis product installed on the new drive. You do not even need to have the new drive formatted to do the cloning. For information on Acronis Bootable Media see Standalone Version of Acronis Software.

Please check this KB artile for more details.

There are no issues with cloning the hard drive once a week with the help of the product, so we would appreciate if you could kindly provide us with the details of the problem. I'm sure we will be able to help you once we have a clear picture of the problem.

Let us know if you have any questions, we will be glad to answer.

Looking forward to your reply.
