Cloning failing system drive....

Thread needs solution

Tried chkdsk /r and it failed miserably. Hung at 11% and didn't budge for hours. My efforts to clone the drive are being met with some success, but it is producing scores of sector read errors. If I instruct ATI to retry, it seems to be successful, but it is a slow and tedious process. Why does retry work? If the sectors are bad, it seems that retrying should produce another fail of that sector, yet it does not. I have read on this forum that the recommended handling of these bad sector reads is to instruct it to "ignore All". I can see where this would speed things up since I don't have to sit here and press "r" every few seconds. But, how does "ignore All" effect the functionality of the new system drive?

Hello Jane,

Thank you for posting. I will do my best to help you with this issue.

The new hard drive will still have the bad blocks on the software level, because Windows has marked them as such. However, the functionality of the new hard drive will not be affected.

I would recommend another workaround. Create a backup and restore it with resize. Please check this article for more information.

If you need additional help, please let me know.

Thank you.
