Incremental Backup - file tagging problem

Thread needs solution

Have True Image 2009 but this problem exists with all versions. Need to use Diskeeper continuously in Automatic Defrag mode. Every time a file is moved, it is marked as changed since the last backup. So an incremental backup approaches the base backup in size, defeating the purpose of an incremental backup.

Question: Is this designating of moved files as changed files peculiar to True Image or do all image backups do the same thing. Diskeeper corporation says that its incompatibility is just with True Image but not with other backups. Is that true?

I like True Image very much (especially the ability to access files and even run files in the backup directly). But I sure do like the continuous backup and Intelliwrite of Diskeeper. Can I have both the cake and the ice cream at the same meal?

There are 2 different things going on:

1) there was/is some driver conflict between Diskeeper and ATI. If both are working for you, then you are fine.
2) any defrag software will create disk sector changes that ATI or any sector-based backup will track as actual changes. So defrag amplifies the amount of changes. One way to limit the effect of this is to schedule defrag only before a new full ATI backup. Another way is to do fewer full disk/partition backups and to use the file backup feature of ACronis or the Non-stop backup feature of Acronis to protect files. File backup or non-stop backup is not sector-based, so defrag is neutral. These latter 2 backups, though, won't get your system back on track if your disk fails.
