Restore an image

Thread needs solution

Hi Forum,
I am a professional as for backup / restore of SAP system landscapes, but
never restored an image to my home pc. Now I have to do it. Acronis has been
installed on this pc. How do I have to proceed ? Do I have to start my pc with
the Acronis Boot CD ? Or can I start my pc as usual and then make a restore ?
Sorry, should my questions be silly.
Kind regards

Olaf,

The answer to your question depends somewhat on why you need to perform a restore and whther this restore is to the system disk/partition or another one.

If you are restoring the system or boot disk/partition then you need to do this from the rescue CD, if it is to non system disk or partition you can do it in Windows.

If your system is still booting it is possible to use the Windows environment to select and start the revovery to the system disk, but it will ahve to reboot into Linux to continue. For peace of mind it is best as I mentioned above to do always use the rescue CD when 'playing' with the system drive or partition.

I'm assuming here that it is a full disk/partition imgae we are discussing and not a Files and Folders backup.

Be advised that the Linux environment will not show your disk letters in the same order as Windows, so it is advisable to ensure you have given all your drives/partitions labels.
